Goodbye Pontiac
Well, Pontiac is now dead. I just can't believe it. What is happening to this country? I just can't believe it. I wonder what's going to happen to all the poor single Pontiac dealers.
God Bless Us, Every One.

Hey, no fair! This should have been added to the Looks like GM...... thread so we can keep that one going forever!

Re: Goodbye Pontiac
Pontiac had a few hits... Lord knows how many Grand Ams I've seen on the road.
Their G cars were not too bad, but somewhat overpriced.
The one model they would be stupid to let go of is the Vibe. It competes directly with the Toyota Matrix. And, from what I've read, it's every bit as good. There is nothing else GM makes that fills this niche.
They might rename it and move it to the Chevy line.

I looked at buying a Pontiac for only about :30 seconds because they are so overpriced.AmpedNow wrote:Their G cars were not too bad, but somewhat overpriced.
They are one and the same, except for cosmetics and price. The Vibe is actually higher.AmpedNow wrote:The one model they would be stupid to let go of is the Vibe. It competes directly with the Toyota Matrix.

And Obama is about to take majority ownership... Which means GM will be THE maker of eco-trabants. IE: golf carts that won't get you where you want to go, but where you do go it will be unsafe at any speed.

Re: Goodbye Pontiac
I just wrote a big diatribe on this, then didn't post it because it was such a ramble. But Mitt Romney said it when Congress was considering the first auto bailout back in November, and I believe it will be true: If the free market was not interfered with, GM would file chapter 11 and reorganize, and survive probably. But with the bailout, it will allow government interference, and GM as an auto manufacturer in the United States will disappear in five years. Goodbye, Pontiac; so long General Motors, and to paraphrase Demo Dick, Sharkman Of The Delta, Herro Crusterfruck.
God Bless Us, Every One.

At least you picked a picture of the much improved "Lutz Revised" Aztek to offer up in your post. My eyes are still burning with all the images of the first year Aztek on every other site on the web.
FWIW: The Aztek was a ground breaking, earth shattering car. The problem is that every other car manufacturer did a better job at creating their first CUV's. Even GM did much better with the Acadia/Enclave/Outlook/Traverse.
The first step in a successful revolution is to defeat all competing revolutionaries.

As ugly as that vehicle is, it is actually a pretty decent vehicle, I am told.
The Acadia kicks ass. I would love to have one. As soon as I sign the dotted line, gas would go back to $4.29/gallon.

The city in Michigan where they used to make them. It's a northern suburb of Detroit. Remember the Pontiac Silverdome where the Lions and Pistons used to play?

Re: Goodbye Pontiac
The Aztek was everything that was wrong with Pontiac. Let's build an outdoor adventure mobile with 2WD only and 14-inch pie plate wheels. Great idea, then make sure it's really, really ugly. The Vibe was a good save, but the people involved with the Aztek should have been cashiered, but they weren't.
God Bless Us, Every One.

Re: Goodbye Pontiac
The Aztek was one of those love it or hate it vehicles. I loved it, because it was different. But didn't love it enough to get one.
As for these CUVs that are popping up everywhere... What the hell?
I'd rather have an actual SUV.
