How Big IS Our US Corporate Tax Burden

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

I'm being represented by the government. I don't think I was from 200-08. So I guess it depends whether you won or lost the last election huh.
Could someone please name me a nation in the history of the world that did not "redistribute wealth".
That's a nice catch phrase for the right, but there's nobody out there running for anything that's not advocating some form or redistribution of wealth.
What you really mean by that phrase is, "I don't like what they're spending the money on". That's a valid point. I didn't like us spending money on Iraq. From my standpoint, that's 2 trillion wasted dollars. I'd rather have the money spent on education, health care and infrastructure.

PS The deficit shrank by about half a TRILLION dollars yesterday. Seems the banks paying back their bailout loans with interest and other cost savings have reduced the cost of the bailout from 750 billion to under a hundred billion.

You totally missed my point, Jay. I'm not saying we shouldn't pay taxes... I'm saying EVERYONE should. 47% of American's NOT paying any tax at all (and in many cases TAKING from 53% that do) is not sustainable.

And it's wealth redistribution.

I also don't think corporations should have loop holes (other than money they don't make in the U.S. shouldn't be taxed by the U.S.).

Excellent point. However, you're a dyed in the wool socialist lib. It will be interesting to see if the moderates that voted with you feel the same way in 2012.

Then it's not a "catch phrase for the right", is it? It's how you think business should be done. Technically speaking, even a flat tax redistributes the wealth, but at least it does so with a fair percentage.

Not at all. I have a problem that people can "buy the vote" by promising "bread and circuses" to those who contribute NOTHING.

Who decides who contributes "nothing"? Is it the mother who has to live in a shelter for the last year because her husband was beating her and abusing the kids? Is it the family of four whose husband and wife work two minimum wage jobs each and can barely squeak by? Is it the multi-millionaire corporate CEO who oversaw his business into bankruptcy and was rewarded with a mega bucks golden parachute?
Or is it just people you don't like?
Are you saying none of the working poor contribute? And ALL of the rich do?

I'm going to need that 47% number defined if you guys don't mind. Is that federal income tax only? I know everyone who works pays SSI and Medicare taxes. I know anyone who owns property pays property tax. We all pay sales tax. Also, who are the people paying no taxes and how or why are the able to avoid it? I'm asking this not to poke you with a stick. I'm asking because I don't know.

I'm not opposed to wholescale change to our federal tax system to make it fair and proper. I would oppose a regressive tax structure.

There is no question we need extensive election reform, but this is still us. They are us. We are them.

To hell with the 53% that supposedly do pay taxes and the ones that don't..

The top 1% has increased their share of the wealth dramatically over the last few decades, at the cost of the Middle and the lower classes

Make them pay for it...

Since we've veered onto the topic of what government should and should not be funding, I think it's nothing short of a tragedy that NASA is becoming this administration's bastard stepchild.

So many things that currently contribute to our quality of life was discovered through R&D in the space program.

They will eventually put thousands of literal rocket scientists out of work, yet they can't seem to hire more IRS bean counters to shake down the American people fast enough.

I see your point to a degree on that..

But more massive corporate welfare in the form of funding research with little value and paying trillions to the contractors for it, isn't the answer either..

Both parties are "on the take" so no, it doesn't make a difference who won. They are all crooks. Plain and simple. All they do is on behalf the corporations, not the people. Even the Demi-Nazi health bill. It only helps insurance corporations for it's all about the money. I'm in a union and have health insurance and can tell you it don't pay *hit! Having insurance that pays nothing is bad. Being FORCED to buy insurance that doesn't pay anything is the new American way!

Always a treat to see a post from someone else who hasn't read anything actually in the health bill. Here's a hint, Fox News makes shit up.

Well, let's not be coy.
What part do you not agree with? You must buy insurance? The insurance you're forced to buy won't pay anything? The government is run by corporations?

I don't like the government being in my pocket for any reason.

Can you "Goose Step" Bob? Carry a flag or banner? Rally people together? Then Obomb needs you in Washington!

BTW: I don't have (can't afford) cable or sat and don't read Fox News. I'm just sick of people that let themselves be lead around by the nose in the name of government. My party, your party, it doesn't matter. Our government is out of control. And it will get worse.

So you would rather be led around by the nose in the name of the rightwing??? lol

Our government is out of control???

Says who??

Who told you that???

Compared to what??

Hope you have a better answer for these rightwing talking points than you did when you claimed that whether or not people had insurance played no role in whether or not people died...lol

While you are right that it is about the money, you still need to understand that this health bill was pretty much what Dole tried to push thru in the 90's and what Romney put together in Mass.. Which makes it a Republican-Nazi bill...

Not to be confused with the rightwing extremist idiots that now control what used to be the Republican Party..

If any of you ever actually read the health care bill, you will see that while it does mandate insurance coverage ( why in hell would anyone not want it? If you can't afford it, they pay?), it specifically denies any ability to enforce the mandate. That's what the line says, though I paraphrase, "there will be no enforcement policy".
So quit whining.
Again, though. Why would you not want insurance coverage?
And again. We will have single payer, universal health care in the next 10-20 years, if not sooner. It is the only sustainable method of full coverage. That's why every other developed nation on the planet has it. And why they all have longer lifespans and lower infant mortality than the US.

Oh no Bob..

Some folks actually think that having insurance plays no role in whether or not you live or die..

They don't think that they need it...

Bob Campbell wrote:That's why every other developed nation on the planet has it. And why they all have longer lifespans and lower infant mortality than the US.
A: need stats on that longer lifespans.
B: a typical lib response. We have a higher infant mortality rate because the United States attempts to save preemies that socialist health care countries won't spend the time or the money to save. If a child dies as a direct result of birth, even though it may take a day or two (or 28), countries don't count them as "infant mortality". That requires, generally, 28 days or longer. Our attempts push life expectancy past that window, therefore we get tagged for having a higher number.

So you're right. Once we socialize health care to the point that over 55 needs to die, and less than 28 days can join them... our infant mortality rates will drop right down like everyone elses.

Well, I do give you credit for having A source, however, I doubt you will find too many people even on this message board that would consider a post on "overpopulation.com" as a legit source..

When you want to get to the real truth behind an issue, go to the primary source, ie., where is the writer getting his or her info from???

In this case, not only do we not see any sources cited, we don't even know who the writer is, where he or she is from, where they got their info from...

Your basically getting info from another message board and taking it as gospel here..
