Welcome to The United Corporate States Of America

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Why not? The Unions funneled money for years.

Besides... using MSNBC or CNN as your source is admitting defeat by default anyway.

Mixed blessing for radio. Short term, it's more ad dollars. Long term, adding more yelling, screaming, lying, and name calling is another reason for listeners to go Ipod.

YEP.. Those that don't understand what a disaster this is for the American people are painfully nieve.. This means that America is now officially a corporate state.. I have already heard the rightwing talking points about the Unions and all that crap but the reality is that the Unions no longer have anywhere near the pull that they used to in this country...

Thanks to the ruling of the Republican appointed majority of the U.S. Supreme court, not only was the vote count in Florida stopped giving GWB the presidency in 2000, America is now a corporate state where elections from the National to the local level will be decided by what is in the best interests NOT of the American people, but of the corporate bottom line..

This is a disaster..

The fact that the Limbaughs and the Becks of the world haven't been whining about this shows you why they are what they are... Just sell outs... Whores for the corporate entities that line their pockets..

Seriously!

If you told me 4 years ago that I've have to tell the LEFTISTS "We lost, get over it", I would have thought you were crazy.

Yet, I've said it more in the last year than I can keep track of.

Thats not all that surprising considering the fact that you label anyone that has a broader view of the world than you do a Leftist..

Its the cornerstone of the undereducated rightwing extremist sect.. Anyone that doesnt agree with me MUST be a Leftie... nevermind the fact that theycan back up everything that they are saying..

Sad peeps..

I'm not "for" this ruling, but I don't see how this is any worse than the megacorps and organized labor backing some PAC-out-of-freaking-nowhere through the 501c3 loophole... Only now they can just back politicians openly. No need to "swiftboat" them anymore.

Even then, as the article mentioned, most large corporations will remain politically agnostic, at least on the surface.

It's up to the American people to keep their bullshit meters on high to weed out the lies.

There is a huge difference... Organized labor is just a drop in the bucket

The full court ruling is available online -- it's a long read but has great detail on how the decision was reached by the majority:

http://www.supremecourtus.gov/opinions/09pdf/08-205.pdf

From Justice Anthony Kennedy's write-up for the majority (page 25): "The Court has recognized that First Amendment protection extends to corporations." The write-up also skewers the decision in Austin v. Michigan Chamber of Commerce (1990) rather severely.

Justice John Paul Stevens wrote a rather convincing argument on the dissenting side, particularly in defending Austin and citing a number of reasons why he believes that the majority overstepped its bounds in reconsidering Austin within this case.

But the Union thing just isn't the same in today's world. Even with a democrat in office, the Justice Department is keeping the overlords (in Philly, NYC, Jersey) neutered and their control/influence is too weak to have any kind of impact. Even WV is sad when (Daddy) Don Blankenship can go on television without having ever redneck UMWA'er trying to kill every Company worker at Massey, et. al.

Now that we have officially recognized that corporations, a legal creation of government, have the same first amendment rights as human beings, what's next? Do X number of corporations get their own seat in the House of Representatives? Can a corporation run for President?

Under this new ruling, can you imagine a private citizen or some small grass-roots effort trying to overturn a ruling that favors Exxon or Big Pharma or the NAB or the AFL-CIO? The American citizen has officially been silenced.
