"May??"
As a guy who has one and takes it with himself on all roadtrips, that was literally the first thing I thought of years ago!

Ouch!Keith Harrison, assistant administrator of the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management, wrote: "When we get information out to people, we like to get it out by every means possible," said Harrison, who also is president of the California Emergency Services Assn. "A lot more people watch TV than listen to AM radio."
"I don't know the same things you don't know."
"Yes, you do; you just won't admit it!"

Well, considering you can get something like 50 cable channels on your cell phone... I doubt the impact will be all that dramatic.
We need a battery operated DTV converter box that straps to the back of your portable TV. The government can hand out coupons.

To hell with the parabolic dish on a 10 foot pole, climb that mountain and hook in to one of those towers.
All 70+ TV channels, baby ...
Plus intermod from the nine paging bases, the sheriff's office, 15 business band repeaters, the six pack of 50 kW ERP FM broadcast stations, a half-dozen FM translators, a few high power digital and analog TV stations, the NOAA weather radio transmitter, 10 different ham repeaters, the statewide government trunked radio system, county fire band, and a few cell phone sites ...

Translators are a Pox on the FM radio dial.
