As a guy who has one and takes it with himself on all roadtrips, that was literally the first thing I thought of years ago!

Keith Harrison, assistant administrator of the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management, wrote: "When we get information out to people, we like to get it out by every means possible," said Harrison, who also is president of the California Emergency Services Assn. "A lot more people watch TV than listen to AM radio."

Well, considering you can get something like 50 cable channels on your cell phone... I doubt the impact will be all that dramatic.

We need a battery operated DTV converter box that straps to the back of your portable TV. The government can hand out coupons.

How do you think consumers are going to feel after they pay big money for a battery operated digital tv, and then find out they can't get their "local" stations unless they hook up to a big external antenna?

Plus intermod from the nine paging bases, the sheriff's office, 15 business band repeaters, the six pack of 50 kW ERP FM broadcast stations, a half-dozen FM translators, a few high power digital and analog TV stations, the NOAA weather radio transmitter, 10 different ham repeaters, the statewide government trunked radio system, county fire band, and a few cell phone sites ...
