Ratings Question?

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Ratings Question?

Post by lovetalkradio »

Can a radio show talk about it ratings or say they are number one on air or a myspace page (which it promoted on air) without purchasing the book?

How does that work?

If a station does not purchase the book, the station should not, in theory, have any idea what place it or any daypart or show comes in.

If they don't say what their source is, any station can claim the number one spot.

"We are number one among nursing home residents on Main Street!"
"Every day I get up and look through the Forbes list of the richest people in America. If I'm not there, I go to work."

Which begs me to ax another question:
When a radio station says "They Play The Most Music Allowed By Law" to which law are they refering?
 8)
...and in Washington 2 peopls and in Newark a windmill and an armadillo!

My favorite follow up to that slogan: "If I played just one more song... just one more song this hour, they'd take me straight to jail."

It always made me laugh but it always made the PD cringe.

We are talking about radio ratings, not bedroom conquests.

My good friend was vacationing in Florida several years ago. He reported to me the local Oldies station he was listening to had this liner.

"Now playing a 50-50 mix of the 50's 60's and 70's"

HUH?

He is in the business and I have known him long enough to trust his observations.

Um,

I guess it sounds better than "Playing a 33.3-33.4-33.3 mix of the 50's, 60's, and 70's."

...you had to expose the one flaw in the claim, didn't you? You wouldn't let it lie.
