MU coaches broadcasting in Charleston feels wrong
Wait a commercial minute.
The Marshall coaches shows are going to be televised by WCHS in Charleston instead of WSAZ in Huntington?
What's wrong with that picture?
Here's a hint.
The problem isn't in your set -- unless the flat screen fell off the wall.
Otherwise, this is one of those all-too-typical "he said, she said" situations.
Pick a villain, any villain.
Some people are pointing a finger at IMG, the marketing conglomerate which pays Marshall $1.4 million annually for its radio and television rights. Others say Marshall athletic director Mike Hamrick is the bad guy. Still, others claim WSAZ general manager Donnie Ray is the culprit.
So, who is to blame?
Does it matter?
I don't think so.
What does matter is for the first time since 1996, the Marshall head football coach's and head basketball coach's television shows aren't going to originate from the Herd's home town.
And that simply doesn't seem right.
When you're channel surfing with your remote control to find the show, it's not going to feel right. When you're watching from the comfort of your easy chair, it's not going to sit right. When you're snacking while viewing the show, it's not going to taste right.
There simply isn't anything right about the logistics of all this.
It feels wrong ... all wrong.
The Marshall coaches television shows should originate from Huntington and be hosted by veteran sportscaster Keith Morehouse.
In a perfect world, that would be the case forever and ever. Not just 16 consecutive years. But, alas, this world is imperfect and growing more so on a daily basis.
Does it have to be that way?
Of course not.
But it means parking some egos at the curb. It means being concerned with the greater good rather than personal benefits. It means making concessions instead of demands.
Mostly, it means everyone acting like they're on the same side.
But that didn't happen in this case. So, now, the Marshall coaches shows will be airing from a studio located in Charleston on a television station based in Charleston.
What a shame.
