Former Huntington CC employee Paul Swann said on his facebook page this morning 'Sad to report that we have new members joining the Rebel Alliance today, but to my Clear Channel friends out of work, I'm here for you, and X-Wings are cooler than Tie Fighters.'

Anyone have any info on who was let go?

Billy is the hardest working working journalist in the Huntington area, bar none! If there is any justice, Mike Kirtner or Marshall Reynolds has already hired him.

And explain to me again why it is that some of us who choose to stay in VERY small markets should feel like we are somehow doing something wrong? These cuts are an shining example of what is wrong with radio today. I know very few of the people who got the cuts in the Huntington market, but I will say this. If ANY of you want to work for a company that values its LISTENERS and who truly believes in the power of what REAL radio can do in people's lives please get in touch with me. I will hire you tomorrow.

Again, I feel sorry for any of you that are now displaced, but I am willing to talk to any of you about coming to work tomorrow. This ain't Clear Channel..we actually CARE of about people.

one one hand, i'm so glad i got out when i did! but now the people i admired for sticking to the good and bad times in the business i still love have gotten the ultimate abandoment...and they're not young like i was when i changed careers (at 35). with voice tracking, satellite programming and other non-humanity intensive technology taking over, one would be foolish to stay in the biz, unless they already have a cushy position. we always thought there would be a need for ONE local newsperson, at least, at an operation like CC Huntington...but we see now that's not the case.

It's so sad to see what radio has become. I'm thankful that I'm as old as I am, or I would have missed out on a great ride. I suppose, in retrospect, I'm most sad that I had no closure in my close to 40 year love affair with radio. But it's only what radio USED to be...no more.

While I sympathize with my former co-workers who are unemployed, I'm beginning to realize that being let go when I was is probably one of the best things that could have happened to me. If it hadn't happened 2 1/2 years ago, it would have happened now. As far as my former co's getting jobs with Kirtner or elsewhere, the same things were said about me. Last year was a noble experiment in trying to stay in radio "past my prime", and it failed miserably. As many people still look back fondly on Gary "Music" Miller, and thank God for them all, the whole radio experience has become like having a hit TV show. Once it's cancelled, many people never resurface, no matter how much talent they have.

I hope every one of my old buddies ends up with their heads above water, as I have now in my official early "retirement". But their working in this field again is probably the worst thing that could happen to any of them. My advice to especially the older of them: Don't try to hold on to a lost cause, a bit of the past that we'll never see again. Move on, and as far from radio as possible.

Afterthought: My wife and I were let go from CC on the same day. She just asked me if I thought all these people were escorted out of the building as we were. I answered, "Who's left to do the escorting"?

I've listened to you since the days of 94X when they wrre out on the hill (and maybe 13 Super CMI, too ... did you work there?). I always considered you our local Larry Lujack or John Records Landecker. You are certainly a legend in Huntington, and many, many, many people will remember you with fondness. I wish you and your family the best.

Yes, I was on CMI from '74-'76, prior to KEE and 94X. I was definitely influenced by the big boys, ESPECIALLY Landecker. I always thought "If it works in the big cities, why can't it work in Huntington?" Glad to know I at least partially succeeded. Thanks again!

Radio and tv are no longer for public service. If there was a problem any where in the world the public could not be notified. there are no people at any of the stations to notify the public. it is all about profit not serving the public. several stations in this area are programing the same shows only the spots are different and they are all controlled by computers. the fcc ruined the industry when they allowed those LMAs. radio thrived when you could only own 1 am and 1fm in any area. since a lot of the stations are carrying the same program why don't we just go to one high power am and one fm and just have little low power ones to cary local sports?? then I guess they couldn't play so many different spots.
