Woody O'Hara passes
Woody O'Hara, former color announcer and sidekick to Jack Fleming during WVU sports events, has died at the age of 70 following complications from surgery. Woody, who also did other on-air announcing jobs and radio sales, intermittently drove me crazy and made me laugh out loud, but always kept my interest and treated me with friendship and respect. God Bless you, Woody.

Re: Woody O'Hara passes
Woody's footprints are still embedded by the top floor back stairwell window at the Ramada Inn. He would take his breaks there during the summer days and then come running into my office screaming, "Rep! Rep! Get out here!" I thought he wanted me to voice a spot or write or dub something up quickly, when in actuality he wanted me to check out the busload of bikini-clad girls that had just hit the pool that that window overlooked.
"It's 8:25 and time for sports brought to you by Chuck's Furniture and in with sports is Woody O'Hara. Woody, how are you this fine Monday morning?"
"Tired, Scott. Very tired".
"Really? Have a big weekend?"
"Sure did. Emceed a nice function where Fairview Baptist Church paid the last payment on their building mortgage".
"THAT event made you TIRED?"
"Oh, it was bigger than you'd think. The Four Tops were there".
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah. They sang 'Bernadette'"...
The year that I won PD Of The Year and Woody won Salesperson Of The Year the company did not hand out monetary rewards with the plaques. I took my plaque home and just put it in a drawer. Woody took his out to the parking lot and ran over it with his car 50 times.
I cherished my four years with Woody. He will be missed...
