This just a few minutes after an onsite report from ODOT's public meeting for the new Ironton-Russell bridge...a report that began with 10 seconds of background noise, then a reporter who could barely be heard for the loud, background crowd noise.
News leader, indeed.

Under things I've said for years but no one listens to. The closer you get the mic to your mouth the less background or ambient noise interferes. The other caveat is when you get it close to your mouth you do not need to yell to overcome the background noise even if it is loud to the reporter’s ears. The microphone is with you so the farther you get from the camera does not require you to speak louder.
