At 25, a long time deejay.

I bet the headline writer glimpsed and thought the guy had worked for 25 years...

He's been at Clear Channel since he was 17...you know, back in the dark ages circa 2002!

This is, by the way, a nice, long article. I in no way mean to take away anything from Mr. Woolum. He doubtless deserves this appreciation piece. But long time dee jay? I suppose in the radio business, some would say so. I doubt the headline writer would have said so, had he/she/it actually read the article before composing a headline.

My quick test as to whether you are a "long time DJ" (I hate that term) would consist of the following...

1. Have you ever played RECORDS on the air and do you know what cue burn is?

2. Do you have all your hearing entact?

3. Can you stomach listening to most of what passes for radio today?

4. When you hear the words "let's pause 15 seconds......." even when off the air, let's say when you are in a store or something, do you freeze in your spot?


The above should help to answer any questions.

Or just say outloud...."World is ending, film at eleven"....If they have a puzzled look, you've got your answer.

That's a nice article, and "long time" is a proper adjective. Five years or more is really a long time.

My favorite thing in the article is the fact Lavender had the balls to print the name of his kick ball team.

Well...,

Let's consider that 5 years of a 25 year life is 20% of this fellow's time on this rock.

Let's also consider that in his time there, he's passed a number of milestones--he's become of legal age to vote. He's also become of legal age to drink.

AND, it's safe to say that we've all experienced those times when a combination of equipment failures, cranky GMs, over-zealous sales goons, holier-than-thou traffic coordinators and a listenership with an average IQ of a houseplant can make the shortest span of time seem as if it will never end.
