Former Fairmont/Morgantown Announcer Passes Away At 72

FAIRMONT — William Joseph Price, known as Bill to his friends and Joe to his family, 72, of Fairmont, passed away on Wednesday (July 28, 2010) at Fairmont General Hospital.

He was born at Smithfield in Wetzel County on Sept. 30, 1937, a son of the late Claude M. Price and Thelma L. (Crawford) Price.

Bill had served in the U. S. Army in the 4th Armored Division. He was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and West Virginia University. While at WVU he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

He was an announcer for many years at WANB in Waynesburg, Pa. He also was an announcer at WMMN, Fairmont, and WAJR, Morgantown. In addition he had worked in radio stations in Wheeling and Chillicothe, Ohio.

Bill was an avid reader and enjoyed country music.

Bill is survived by his sister with whom he made his home, Claudette Price of Fairmont; two sons and their wives, Col. Arthur C. Price and his wife Gabi of Scott Air Force Base in Illinois and William Joseph Price IV and his wife Spring of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter, Christine Ice and her husband James of Murrysville, Pa.; 11 grandchildren: Jordan Price, Hannah Price, William Price V, Alan Price, Jessica Ice, Ryan Price, Kobe Price, Wyatt Price, Jurni Price, Olivia Ice and Joshua Ice.
