8:25 cut in on WDTV this morning showcased a spaghetti dinner, a humane society event, and the same weather footage they have been showing since Friday from Lewis County. Something important happened this morning that may have been a little more newsworthy - dont you think?

Ive noticed both stations no longer having reporters actually "talking" on camera. Its more of like a shoot and anchor read approach to the news. Why is this? A few years back reporters on WBOY had to produce a story nearly every day.

But the lack of coverage this morning - ridiculous.

Spaghetti dinners and humane society events (sauce?) are big news in the northern WV Itialian communities.
Dead Byrd news was all over the national feed anyway.
Later today WVU doctors will announce that Chris Henry was brain damaged. Go figure.

Perhaps this is simply a manifestation of the stations' catering to the sensibilities of their audiences, rather than not knowing "news" if it bit them on their collective posteriors. True, it's woefully sad commentary, but we all know that media are often guilty of "dumbing down" their content as well as their presentation.

Either is bad, but in combination...!
