BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) — A Beckley woman faces charges of taking a slaying victim’s purse and a bottle of liquor from the crime scene.
Beckley police say 18-year-old Sedequa McDowell entered the apartment of 33-year-old Monika Martin before emergency crews arrived on March 27 and took the items. A neighbor who found Martin’s body had asked McDowell for help.
Detective Jeff Shumate says McDowell told police that she kicked the victim’s body and called her name to see if she was dead before taking the items.
