Worst commercials of the year?
Here are the two worst commercials that I have seen in a LONG time. What the hell is going on you say? It's that whole "spoken word" neo-Beat bullshit coming home to roost. It's a bunch of BABIES fresh outta college working for some ad agency, thinking they can connect with a demographic. Problem is, IT SUCKS! I cant believe these two once fine companies would pay good money to advertise this way.
So which is the worst in your opinion? RAM.. or.. LEVI'S?
Levis Pioneers! O pioneers!
Come my tan-faced children,
Follow well in order, get your weapons ready,
Have you your pistols? have you your sharp-edged axes?
Pioneers! O pioneers!
For we cannot tarry here,
We must march my darlings, we must bear the brunt of danger,
We the youthful sinewy races, all the rest on us depend,
Pioneers! O pioneers!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAXpJSvW ... r_embedded
My name is Ram and my tank is full
The "My Tank Is Full" campaign is one of the most inane, contrived, simplistic, unoriginal attempts to "be different" that I've ever seen.
My name is Ram, and my tank is full.
All braun - all brain.
Built not to last but to outlast
Not to achieve, but to overachieve.
I will not yield
I will not downshift
I will not coast to a stop

The whole Radio Shack Christmas campaign... "THE SHACK!"
Taco Bell bringing back the Cheesy Gordita. The whole overwhelming music is aggravating.
QVC's Christmas shopping ad -- has a kid with this hideous, fingers on a chalkboard nail just reading 30 seconds of copy.
"HEALTH CARE ALERT"... the one with 650 registrations a day.
"OH HONEY IT COSTS AS MUCH TO BURY A MAN AS IT DOES A WOMAN!"

I was thinking they were setting the stage for putting Carrie Donavan back in their ad campaigns.fearpeddler wrote:I hate those old navy commercials with the manequins.....
Jerry - Can I vote for both... they're equally suck.

I can "almost" overlook the others here because I dont shop at Old Navy (those ARE horrible commercials however) and I think about these grand old companies like Levi's and Dodge trying to "hip", but in the process make it obvious to MOST buyers of these products that there is a SERIOUS disconnect between the manufacturers and the buyers. I made the statement in another thread that commercials like these can actually turn people off. Of course, I could be wrong about the demographics: Maybe they're going for the Gay jeans wearing pickup truck driver?

Re: Worst commercials of the year?
My current vote for bad commercial goes to the cell phone thing where the mouth stays talking on the phone even when the mouth's owner is off doing something else. What in the hell? This is a commercial AGAINST cells phones IMHO. Whoever thought this would appeal to phone buyers.... It merely shows how vapid and annoying are cell phones used in public.
My other one is for the kid setting up a lemonade-stand thing, but selling frappachinos made with this little machine they are selling. I don't get this at all, especially the part about not re-using the plastic cups. I don't understand the appeal of this thing AT ALL. Makes it look like this device is for the stupid parents of clueless children.

I gotta go for the Geico "money you could have been saving" spots, where the money with the eyes looks at somebody while Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching You" plays. I think maybe I just played that song on the radio ONE too many times back in '84.

That's not only BAD... it's cheesy LAME, as though some fly by night company didn't have enough money to do a REAL commercial. Hell... the LOCAL stations could pull THAT off with little work.

Gotta add another one to the list too... I had almost purged this from my mind and actually un-seen it until the damn thing popped up on MNF.
The entire Jimmy Football Bud Light campaign. That guy needs to die in a fire or something.

Re: Worst commercials of the year?
The Levi's commercial makes sense, when you consider the company's origins. They're just attempting to associate their product with a 160-year old concept.
Maybe it resonates with the desired demo -- it's just not your demo...
Total disconnect with the Ram ad. I doubt the desired demo cares a wit about "clever" poetry... They just want to know how much torque that sumbitch has, and that it's not foreign junk.
As for worst commercials, anything Suddenlink, with their overmodulated garbage.

Suddenlink has over-processed, loud commercials.
They also run old tv shows and movies with the audio so low that it is almost impossible to watch.
Both of these situations apparently originate in Parkersburg.
Suddenlink has a program guide that does not even identify their own movies.
The Dragnet series from the early 50's is identified as the 1967 series with Harry Morgan as co-star.

Re: Worst commercials of the year?
I think this is the worst commercial.

"I Ride" should be for Harley Davidson, not for Jeep. Plus the dealers are irate over the ads because they do not feature a product.

Yeah, am I the only one who thinks, You DRIVE a Jeep, you don't ride it. You RIDE a Harley.
I thought the same thing about it being a Harley ad.

Best use of music in a commercial all year. You and I may not even like it, but it was THE perfect music...Bar Rat wrote:Taco Bell bringing back the Cheesy Gordita. The whole overwhelming music is aggravating.

The "think with your dipstick" ads. I don't remember if it is Castrol or Quaker State.

There is something EVIL and just plain stupid about the minds who came up with THAT one. More importantly, how could the leadership of Castrol watch that and say "We LOVE it! A Scotsman beating people with a piece of metal is JUST the image we need to sell oil!"
These people abuse animals at home.

That campain is evolving with spots where people are USING the pile of money to buy things. Modestly clever, with a little self-mockery.Bob Campbell wrote:I gotta go for the Geico "money you could have been saving" spots, where the money with the eyes looks at somebody while Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching You" plays.
