If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Cig Advertising

Post by lastone »

I thought it was still illegal to advertise cigs on air or in print. When did this change? Full page "King" ad in today's paper. Brands and prices. Have I been asleep since 95'?

In which paper was the ad? Can you provide us a link or something?

The flintstones ad is ridiculous. It is no wonder my parents and grand parents smoked.

That is pretty crazy...

That would be like Hannah Montana smoking Marlboro Lights throughout the show.

As I understand it, the Tobacco Settlement only applies to the bigger tobacco companies (1). King is made by a company called House of Prince.

For example, Bailey's, LongHorn and a Tahoe tobacco brands have recent sponsored NASCAR folks (specifically in the Truck series) and they still have the trailers giving out free smokes and can of snuff at the races.

(1) That's oversimplified, but close enough for a message board.

"King" is the local retailer not the brand. The ad was on a back page of the Hearld-Dispatch Nov 26. Full page ad included other things but featured cig brands and prices. This is the first ad for smokes I've seen in years. In 95' we could say the remote was at a tobacco store but could not say brands or prices.

Tobacco advertising is only banned on radio and tv. Print still ok.
