Former WSAZ-TV news anchor may run for judge

Post by CoolBreeze »

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Kathy A. Brown, a Charleston lawyer and former WSAZ-TV news anchor, may run for the open seat on the Kanawha County Circuit Court, whether Gov. Joe Manchin appoints her to fill that vacancy or not. Brown is one of seven lawyers the state Judicial Selection Committee recommended fill the vacancy.

During 21 years as a reporter and anchor, she won numerous awards for uncovering injustices and investigating political corruption.

Brown said she was the first reporter to bring out details about how the late Fred Zain falsified DNA reports that helped convict more than 100 people when he worked as a forensic lab technician for the State Police.

Brown also uncovered ties between drug dealing and public officials in Mingo County, where more than 80 people were indicted.
