Cristy, Mary "June"

Mary "June" Cristy, 85, of Fairmont, passed away Saturday (Sept. 26, 2009) at the home of her son Bill in Shepherdstown.

She was born in Mannington on June 22, 1924, a daughter of the late Clifford A. Shuman and Ola Connor Shuman. June's early employment included Hartley's Department Store and Bennett's Pharmacy on Merchant Street and later she was the manager and an on-air personality at WTCS Radio Station, all of Fairmont.

She was a 1942 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School. She was an active member of the Baptist Temple Church of Fairmont and a member of the Carl Cain Sunday School Class. She was a member and founder of the Mountaineer Artist, the Country Roads Decorative Artists of Parkersburg and also the Golden Triangle Decorative Artists.

Survivors include her son, William "Bill" Cristy and his wife Deni Alkire Cristy of Shepherdstown; and five grandchildren, Clifford Albert Cristy of Powell, Tenn., William Edward Cristy II of Knoxville, Tenn., Sarah Eileen Livesay of Oakridge, Tenn., Tamara Brennen of Fultonham, Ohio, and Misty King of Zanesville, Ohio.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, George Edward Cristy; a son, Robert S. Cristy; two brothers, Robert Shuman and Edgar Shuman; and a sister, Alice Grubb.

Mrs. Cristy has chosen immediate cremation as her method of disposition. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont with Dr. Holley Faulkner officiating.
