Turn down your car stereo!

Lorain City Council says yes to an officer removing a car stereo that's too noisy.

(Lorain Ohio)- Lorain City Council and more than two thousand residents want to crack down on car stereo boomers.

Resident Denise Caruloff has been fighting for seven years to get an ordinance passed to increase fines and penalties for offenders.

Fines have gone up and the officer would have the option to remove the stereo on the first offense under an ordinance that was passed Tuesday night by City Council. Caruloff says this isn't someone going down the street playing their stereo, the music has to be audible from 50 feet.

Mayor Tony Krasienko has not yet signed or vetoed the ordinance, he has 10 days.

Some people think she is going too far when there are other problems in the city. But Caruloff say, loud stereos promote aggression. She says when offenders are pulled over officers find drugs and weapons. There was even the officer in Twinsburg who was shot in the head as he followed a loud music offender.

Caruloff hopes the changes will make people think twice about what she calls "audio assault."

I can hear most car stereos playing at "acceptable" volumes from around 50 feet, if these idiots want a law that makes more sense in terms of how to prosecute it they should mirror akron ohio and its noise laws regarding car radios.

50 feet is a standard in Ohio loud stereo ordinances. It has already been tried through the court systems and is pretty much bulletproof. A number of cities have the same law. I really can't think of any reason why a car stereo should be audible outside the car, unless the windows are down and you're standing right next to it.

We all know what this is intended to stop: The person who removes their whole back seat and replaces it with a Boyz-in-da-hood/rock-band-in-concert speaker system. A water-cooled 4 million watt amplifier is installed in the trunk and the woofers and sub-woofers actually rattle the sheet metal in the car's fenders. Of course, the person who paid for such an installation has no intention of listening to it at a reasonable volume level. They are obnoxious.

Seems to me that this person also watches CNN all day long and thinks there's a bogeyman behind every tree... She thinks that these exceptions are the rule.

Does every motorist with an exceptional sound system have drugs and weapons on them? Do they all want to shoot police officers who tell them to turn it down?

Do all senior citizens drive ten miles under the speed limit with their left blinker on for five miles, eventually making a hard right turn? Does that mean they're all senile and should be chained to a nursing home bed?

Does a bear shit in the woods?

Only if it sounds like garbage... I can appreciate a thousand-watt sound system that sounds clean with no distortion. But more often than not, they just throw a $50 bass cannon in the trunk and try to rattle everyone's windows.

If you're gonna ruin your hearing, at least do it right.
