Under a scenario that would have Manchin running for and winning election to an unexpired term in the U.S. Senate in 2010, then Senate President Earl Ray Tomblin, D-Logan, would become governor in January 2011.
I never gave it much thought of how Joe Manchin would make it to the White House, but the above scenario would put him in the perfect position to make a run for the office in 2016/2020.
