Not Much Gets Me Ticked...

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Not Much Gets Me Ticked...

Post by Scott Reppert »

It is 1:42pm on a Friday afternoon. I am trying to phone two radio stations to find out some information. One major market AM and one fringe-major market FM. The AM went to an answering machine that was not even "station specific" (i.e.: the generic voice that either came with the phone or the machine saying the number you have called and leave a message after the beep) and the FM has a six option voicemail system with which EVERY option goes to a voicemail recording.

1. If I had already spent money and there was a problem with my account, I would REALLY be ticked.
2. If I wanted to spend money, the management has NO REASON to gripe about "times being bad" if you can't answer your phone to negotiate my buy.
3. If I was calling as an "interested party" seeking to inquire of your station (as I was), you have NOT PUT FORTH A VERY GOOD "FIRST IMPRESSION".
4. If I was the seventy second caller today wanting to know if you'll play "Eye Of The Tiger" for me, I understand why you don't answer the phone.

Man, I'd never let that happen like that under my watch...

Yea but think of the money they saved on a receptionist! That bean counter is headed to bonus land.

Bean counters don't get bonuses based cuts. The general manager and station managers make those bonuses.

That's the corporate bean counter, you know the guy that drove by a station once on a trip to the beach?

I think you mean The Hamptons. The "beach" is where the receptionists would have gone to for vacation if they were still there.

That's why Summit Media / BOSS 97 has refused to go to automated phones. It's too easy to push aside
potential clients and listeners!

The only time you get a recording here is after hours and then most weekends we are answering phones
cause someone is around doing remotes or shows or updating weather reports, etc.

Heck we've even been around till midnight per sponsor's request to record them for their spots.

I agree with you Scott 100%

Anything could be outsourced to Mumbai.
Mumbai may the sub it to illegal aliens in the USA.

I like you.

As long as you're appearing very service-oriented and not desperate, I like you a lot.

I have not made any call logs or status reports in Mumbai, but I have shocked a few service centers in Bangalore. I would like to say it was my suave style or debonair nature, but I think it was for being a pain in the ass of tech support.

Now, I am the talk of the town in Des Moines, IA, Alpharetta, GA and Roseland, NJ. Not sure if that is a move up from India.

And yes, Roseland, NJ was the location of the Sopranos home in the television series.

Might be interesting to stop by a station like that to see there public file and if the doors are locked make a complaint to the FCC that no one was at the station to be able to see the public file. Or it might be some one working that has no idea where the public file is or what a public file is.
I keep thinking I want to some time stop at a station in a small town and see what kind of reaction I would get to see their public file.
