The New & Improved "Action News" - apparently

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

The New & Improved "Action News" - apparently

Post by The Big Ear »

So I'm tooling around listening to WVHU today and a commercial comes on for WCHS TV news.

It had lines in it about "it takes nerves of steel" to bring you the news...

and something about "kicking in doors to get you the answers you need."

And I'm thinking, the guy who wrote the copy was probably watching "24" when he wrote it.

Premature, perhaps. I think we're getting close to a time where it WILL actually require courage to report the news. Not that the dominant media is even trying to do that these days.

News has become info-tainment, from NBC, Fox, and CNN, right down to the WSAZ level.
Twenty second sound bites.
As many pictures as possible.
"Cutesy" stories interjected to lighten the mood.
All orchestrated by The Beautiful People who stand in front of the camera.
J-school (at least the television side) has become a modeling agency for pretty boys and ex-cheerleaders.
Television stations say their research indicates this is what we all want.
Just like Radio tells us we really want to hear the same worn out music over and over.

Translators are a Pox on the FM radio dial.

Bad reporters straight out of college are the problem. They are hired young and cheap and are painfully self-centered.
Here's a prime example.Try to watch without rolling your eyes.

i can think of another former reporter/anchor from there who used to do that alot  and she wasnt fresh out of j-school.. the lady in question at the moment found a way to get into the story and try to show a different angle of it other than "heres the homeshow, come buy some shit"...
Doesn't MSNBC stand for the Media that Spins the News for Barrack's Cabinet?

There are dozens of ways to give a story a different angle other than making it all about yourself. That's just egotistical and a waste of time. It's not our job to become the news. It's our job to cover it.

It's a case of getting a job in TV news just to be on TV. Actual journalism is an after-thought.

That's why things have come full circle in my life, for someone my age and older.

When I was a child, how did you experience things outside your area? Listen to things not available where you were? Not in the "mainstream" where you lived?

AM Radio. When I was a kid I used to hear music on WABC or WLS that local stations weren't playing... Enough to stay awake at night to listen.

Same thing today. AM Radio is the ONLY broadcast medium that deviates from the same parrot press which has 3 networks that basically report not only the SAME stories, but the same INTERPRETATION of every story!

And people keep wanting to declare AM dead.
