Rumor: Mike Huckabee gets the Paul Harvey slot

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Rumor: Mike Huckabee gets the Paul Harvey slot

Post by Force Commander »

Nothing official yet, but my rumor mill says Mike Huckabee will take over the Harvey early morning and Noon slot on Monday 3/23. Source did not have info about The Rest of the Story. I never want to say for sure on "unofficial" information, but I do suspect this is the real deal or I would not mention it. Thoughts?

Fact.

Affiliate information for the Huckabee report has been sent out. The major change will be the mid-day update being reduced from 15 minutes to 5 minutes, and the afternoon update will no longer be "The Rest Of The Story", rather, a 5 minute news update.

Thanks for the confirm. I see the reports from the trades are starting.

Beginning Monday (3/23) ABC Radio Networks will feed commentaries by Mike Huckabee (pictured) in the daily time slots previously held by the late Paul Harvey. The five-minute Huckabee Report will cover Harvey’s former morning and afternoon slots, while affiliates will get back 10 minutes to cover locally in middays where Harvey’s 15-minute newscast ran for decades. The move of Huckabee into Harvey’s old slots is likely just the first of a number of options that ABCRN will offer as the network and affiliates adjust to life after Paul Harvey

Wow.
To be selected to replace Paul Harvey, even over his son who was also named Paul Harvey.
Talk about a once-in-a-lifetime gift opportunity.

Congrats, Mr. Huckabee.

I wish they'd have considered Fred Thompson. I also wish Fred Thompson had run a better campaign...

Neither one of them would stand a chance against the Obama re-election machine.

I like Mike in media, and think he's a genuine good guy. But I don't think I could vote for him.

Besides that, I look forward to hearing the show.

Well,
I pity anyone trying to be the 'next' Paul Harvey guy. Huckabee might be fine a year from now, but the FIRST guy that takes over is doomed...simply by a non-spoken rule of radio.
(and TV for that matter)

His Fox show kicks ass. Guess it's time to find an affiliate.

Actually, Paul jr. was ABC's first pick, but he declined. Evidently, he's a concert pianist or some such type of musician, and didn't wish to be tied down with the day to day machinations of putting on the show. Heck, he's right around 60 himself. :)
