Why would I advertise on WVHU?

This morning I have had three friends who I know and trust call me to tell me, quite incredulously, that Mr. Tom Roten is specifically mentioning local businesses by name, criticizing their service and the fact they are in Huntington, and that he is even noting he is not supposed to do that. Why would I, as a potential sponsor, even think of advertising on such a station? Or are sponsors and only sponsors guaranteed not to have to suffer his on air rants?

Then again, who listens to him anyway? Still, I am told that Mr. Roten is no longer in sales, and does newscasts at the noon hour and shortly thereafter each day. Problematic, given his attitudes and rants in the morning...I am also told that while he was busy ranting about the proposed Huntington municipal fee increase this morning, he even remarked about how much news coverage he and the other 'news anchors' were choosing to give it. Quite frankly, having Mr. Roten do news is not unlike having Mr. Beck or Mr. Limbaugh do news, in my book. He can either be a very ideological broadcaster or a serious news broadcaster, but not both. Or does WVHU at all value news credibility?

News Media Study: Talkers' Second Favorite Topic Is Themselves

The PEW PROJECT FOR EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM "State of the News Media 2009" study reports that a survey of talk radio topics showed the number one topic in 2008, as expected, was the election, with over 60% of the "radio talk newshole." But the number two topic turned out to be the media in general and the hosts themselves, accounting for almost a tenth of talk radio content. The economy placed third, followed by the government, crime, foreign affairs, the environment, other domestic issues, race/gender/gay issues, and business.

About all I hear on AM anymore for ads are companies that sound like they are selling the same fraudulent or questionable kinds of products that end up in my SPAM box.

Ie: "wipe out your credit card debt", "fake v1agra and c1al1s", and "get rich working at home quick schemes"

I heard an ad on Roten's show this morning for a liquor store, I don't remember which one. I figure that probably sends him into orbit every time he hears it since he doesn't like such things.

Could his sales job have been a hidden casualty of the CC cutdown from earlier this year?

I wonder if he still drives Hyundais. I also heard from friends this morning that there were GM and GEICO ads dropped in to what used to be local slots. And that the GM ads were boosting GM's green reputation. I wonder if that warmed Roten's heart. And apparently a favorable mention of Kroger, but then it IS in Barboursville.

Yeah... his Barboursville ego is over the top. But he is not alone. Nearly everyone I know from Barboursville has the same retarded ego about where they live. Somehow, living in Barboursville comes with some kind of prestige.
