How Radio Is Killing Itself

Radio is under attack from every niche, and corner. Technology is
radios nemesis and traditional weapons of mass destruction that worked
in the past are useless against an enemy that's smarter and will never
stop.

Broadcasting people have proven skills to learn and adapt, that’s so
true,
but unlike years past many still have their collective heads in the
sand, still believing their own lies and hype, hoping it will all just
go away.


When I hear lies like ipod fatigue, or people don't want to manage
their own playlist I laugh out loud. Sure my 84 year old farther
couldn't be bothered.

Kids at the age of 3 are clicking keyboards, by 8 they own cell phones
and ipods. In their tribes, owning these devices is very desirable,
it’s a sign of status, coolness, and that makes them seem sexy and
smart too. Radio, is a device their parents use and nobody in their
tribes wants to be associated with that, just like no one would
actually still listen to 45’s or 8 tracks, except for one exception,
people who collect antiques and old farts reliving their youths


Radio has one hope and its called the internet! Radio’s collective
armies must change focus, away from defending the fort, to embracing
the future. The bloodiest battle will take place, on radios last
stand, the dashboard. Get ready because internet enabled dashboards
are coming and if radio doesn’t pay attention, they’ll be dead last in
that race too. If you’re hoping HD will save radio, sorry, that
technology is already an antique sitting on shelves collecting dust.
And in tribes that admire sexy devices likes cell phones and ipods, HD
is an like an old transistor radio, true it’s a classic, but just not
sexy anymore.

All I will say is, radio is not in a good place when its biggest hope for the future is hoping the future will just go away.
