Sloppy, Sloppy, Sloppy at WVHU

So this morning, for something different, I decided to listen to a few minutes of the Tom Roten show on WVHU. Some observations:

* It's understandably a "Best Of" presentation. There are no local news cutouts, no silly traffic updates that list information that has been available for weeks (I-64 is under construction at the 17th Street Bridge exit and the shoulder is closed on the east bound side exit, but the exit is open). NOT understandably, the best of cuts include the original time announcements by Tom...so moments ago, he informed us it was 7:56, but an hour ago he told us it was 8:19!! Pity the poor listener who tunes in and depends on the time announcements this morning. I thought time announcements were important in AM morning drive, even on the day after Christmas. I thought the listener was important. Apparently, Tom and company don't think so...or are sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.

* One of Tom's guests explained patiently that the auto bailout made no sense as cars are being built in Kentucky, Alabama and South Carolina, and those makers are all profitable. In just a few short weeks since the original interview was recorded, Toyota announced its first quarterly loss ever!

* Apparently, callers are not part of the best of Tom Roten. I guess Don isn't a part of the best of Tom Roten. Or Tom McCallister. Or Ruby...then again, I haven't heard Ruby in years.

* Otherwise, it truly is a Best Of of Tom Roten. Tyler, other than not cutting out the time announcements, seems to have carefully edited out or not selected Tom's usual screaming rants and tirades. I usually can't listen to the guy for more than about five minutes before I quietly switch to something else, thinking how much I like listening to the Glen Becks of the world, with whom I have little agreement, but whose talent is obvious and presentation skills are excellent. The same is true for Rush...mostly, but certainly not for the likes of Tom. Tom must be an excellent sales person or make very little. I suspect it is not or but and.

* Most interestingly, if you connect the common thread between his guests, you see each seems to have their own interest to promote or is a local politician doing some sort of constituent service. Book authors, inventors, people with a monetary interest in being heard. So far, interestingly, I have NOT heard Chuck Norris on this Best Of, but I have admittedly tuned in and out while showering, going for a walk, etc.

Everyone knows Chuck's voice cannot be captured and represented by mere digits and electrons.....

Perhaps "Best-Of' means the only recordings that didn't have massive technical problems
or the shows that Tom Rotten said fewer stupid things.
