This is a portion of a post that I made in the Engineering forum, but it really belongs here. I'd be interested in hearing opinions on the topic.

Another thought: could a station do a payola-style setup with new music on an HD2 channel (ideally with a format that avails itself to new music), but make it legal by giving the required disclosure?
When a broadcast licensee has received or been promised payment for the airing of program material, then, at the time of the airing, the station must disclose that fact and identify who paid for or promised to pay for the material.
Is it possible to create a cash-flow positive situation by utilizing such an approach?
Legal payola + HD2 = profit?

Re: Legal payola + HD2 = profit?
I would THINK you could do it, but the main problem remains; who is going to hear it?
Hell, i have almost every electronic device thingie that I can get my hands on and I still don't have an HD receiver and have no plans to buy one,
My unit in my vehicle is HD ready and GPS ready. I opted for the GPS thing, and don't even want an HD receiver. AND I AM A FREAK when it comes
to that stuff.
Will that really ever take off?
I think we're looking more at some kind of Internet streaming down the road that will take off, I just don't think the HD thing is going to make much of a dent.
Maybe i'm wrong.
