Magic 97.9 to Feature All Christmas Music Starting Friday
Special to Huntingtonnews.net
From a Magic 97.9 press release
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year.”
Andy Williams and Johnny Mathis will be joined by artists like the Eagles, Whitney Houston, Amy Grant, John Lennon, Gloria Estefan, Celine Dion, Josh Groban, and many other favorite artists of yesterday and today to make this Christmas like no other ever experienced in the history of the Tri-State area.
Starting Friday, Nov. 21, at 8:45am, Magic 97.9 will kick-off 24 hours of all Christmas music. According to J.B Miller, Program Director of Magic 97.9, “We’re pleased to be the Tri- State’s only Christmas Music Station with weeks of nothing but the most popular Christmas music for Tri-State area radio listeners.”
“You’ll enjoy the cream of the crop when it comes to Christmas music,” Miller said. “Artists like Bruce Springsteen, the Beach Boys, Elton John, Paul McCartney, and Air Supply will be mixed with artists such as Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Harry Connick, Jr., and Nat King Cole.”
“Listeners will enjoy 52 minutes of Christmas music every hour during the holiday season,” says Miller. “Egg Nog, holiday shopping, wrapping presents and the only radio station featuring nothing but the best Christmas music; Christmas 2008 couldn’t get any better!””
This will be Magic 97.9’s 3rd season of the All Christmas Format and based on listener response and Arbitron ratings; it continues to be one of Magic 97.9’s biggest months of the year.

Did all the punctuation mistakes come from Magic or The Huntington News...?

The punctuation came from Magic, but only because HuntingtonNews (among others) is too lazy to even partially rewrite a poorly written press release.Arp2 wrote:Did all the punctuation mistakes come from Magic or The Huntington News...?

HNN would not bother to change or edit anything in a press release.Arp2 wrote:Did all the punctuation mistakes come from Magic or The Huntington News...?

Too Late...... Two stations in Philly blew up their formats the beginning of last week for all Christmas, all the time.
Bah... Humbug...

Still... it seems like they're all jumping later than they did in 2006. (Wasn't monitoring 2007... sorry.)

I was thinking that B101 in Philly flipped Nov 1st in 2006/2007. This year has been relatively later.Lester wrote:Still... it seems like they're all jumping later than they did in 2006. (Wasn't monitoring 2007... sorry.)

I do not care what ANYONE says----I don't not care what ratings show-----
Blowing up a radio station for 24/7 Christmas music MIGHT work, but I'll NEVER--EVER--EVER--be convinced
that it helps more than it hurts.........or at least SO MUCH more that it's worth-while.
NEVER!
Please, return to your cars. There's nothing to see here.

Helps WHAT and Hurts WHAT?
It must do something or stations wouldn't do it.

Well, we've got an AC that's going on its 5th year doing it. I'd say they've seen enough $$$ to know it works.Kitesgot wrote:I do not care what ANYONE says----I don't not care what ratings show-----

Re: And it all begins Friday...
MY POINT IS--------how much revenue did you GAIN from it? Enough to run-off scuds (skuds) of people that you have to lure back on the 26th of December?
What would the revenue have been if you'd have just let it alone?
Sure------there are going to be legions of NEW revenue streams-----but how does that play-out in the end with the shift in listening habits that have to be remedied?
I just think it''s a bad idea to abandon what got you there.
(the forum has ALWAYS been "pro-Christmas music" and I don't know why I bothered to jump in- Just don't even respond to this, it just pisses me off---- I SAID NO! DON'T DO IT!!)

Re: And it all begins Friday...
Someone has to have done the math.
If it was a bad deal or even marginal, nobody would have done it.
Anyway, It seems that is a management decision, not programming dept.
