2009 Charleston Regatta CANCELED!

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

2009 Charleston Regatta CANCELED!

Post by CoolBreeze »

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Charleston Mayor Danny Jones announced Monday night that the 2009 Regatta has been canceled.

Jones cited a lack of financing as the reason for the cancellation, saying that there has been a lack of sponsors for next year's event.

According to the mayor, private sponsors would have to come up with $350,000 in order to save the 2009 Charleston Regatta.

Right now, Jones says the city is working to come up with a different event for Labor Day weekend.

Charleston's Sternwheel Regatta has been an annual riverfront tradition in the city since 1971. Thousands of people have come every year to enjoy live entertainment and other activities.

It's about time. Huntington canceled their Redneckfest years ago. My last trip to Huntington's Redneckfest was in the early 90's. When I walked by the portapoties and some drunk-ass redneck was sitting on the john with the door wide open shouting explicatives.

Not a family event.

Charleston could take some of the money they're taking from the user fee pool and put it towards regatta, considering they've been spending it on everything else it wasnt intended for..

They are readily available at Amazon. I just bought one for a less computer literate for a friend this past weekend and it was delivered today.

Toys R Us also has them online but at a $100.00 premium.

Sharon King wants to take over the state basketball tournament and make a festival of it.
She, of course, will run the entire show.
