Props to DirecTV for putting KHOU/Houston on Channel 361, just like they did with WDSU/New Orleans when Hurricane Fay threatened Louisiana last month. Unfortunately it's not in HD, but I'll take it.
I have family that lives in the greater Houston area that has evacuated to a hotel about 50 miles west in Houston. This is the first time I've ever heard of them having to evacuate from their home, and they've lived there (and my aunt has worked for NASA) for 20-25 years now.
I'm concerned for anyone who is still in Galveston at this point.

I have some friends there. One's going to be at work (medical field) while the other camps at home on PS3 until the lines go down.
There was no mandatory evacuation in their zip code.

My relatives who live in Houston escaped harm and they heard that luckily there was not flooding on their street. There is a gigantic mess to be cleaned up, though...

My friends made it ok, with no apparent harm to their home, except a few missing window screens and a messed up gate.
I gave the one at home real-time radar updates through the night. He actually slept a few hours before he was awakened by screaming winds. He called for an update, and the eye wall was passing about 10 miles to his east, so they got the full force winds for about an hour. Amazingly, we never lost cell service the entire time. At times I could hear the wind in the background.
They're hoping the power will be on by Monday or Tuesday. Looks like it will be a little longer than that...
Every traffic cam in Houston is still down as of now.
