Call To Tom Leykis Leads To Police Seeking Murder Charges

A 2006 on-air murder confession on the TOM LEYKIS show has led to murder charges being sought by PHOENIX police against a woman who they believe killed her boyfriend seven years ago.

The call, on the CBS RADIO host's NOVEMBER 3rd, 2006 show, set police on the trail of the caller and reopened the case of the death of TORTSEN ROCKWOOD of AHWATUKEE FOOTHILLS, AZ, who was originally considered a suicide. The EAST VALLEY TRIBUNE reports that police had MEGAN SUZANNE VICE, ROCKWOOD's live-in girlfriend at the time of his death, read a transcript of the LEYKIS show call to match the voices. A "reasonable cause statement" has been filed with the court saying that the police believe VICE shot and killed ROCKWOOD after an argument over ROCKWOOD hitting her son.

In the call to LEYKIS, the caller said that she had a child with a co-worker when she was 19 and that the co-worker quit his job so he wouldn't have to pay child support, and that she shot him when "he wouldn't listen." The caller claimed to have lied to police, and LEYKIS said he would turn her in, because she had "just confessed." The woman faces first-degree murder charges as well as counts of obstructing a criminal investigation by filing a false police report.

LEYKIS' Exec. Producer GARY ZABRANSKY told the TRIBUNE that he and LEYKIS have been cooperating with PHOENIX police and that the police have asked LEYKIS not to discuss the case on the air, adding, "Callers still want to know about it. This is one that’s not going away. We don’t want it to go away. Ultimately, we want to see an arrest and prosecution. And, we want to talk about it."
