Double O Radio on the hunt?

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Double O Radio on the hunt?

Post by kentuckymedia »

Hear from two very reliable sources that Double O Radio was in meeting with Clear Channel during the cold winter months of 2007 prior to the Goodradio fallout.

Rumor has it that the folks in San Antonio have been talking to the peeps in New York City trying to work out some hard numbers to sell off a cluster or four to Double O.

When approached by the suits at Double O back in January of 2007, they had originally focused on buying Wheeling, Williamsport, Binghamton and Lima-Findlay Ohio. But after Goodradio came along, the deal slid off the charts.

Double O currently operates radio stations in the following markets :

SAN ANGELO - TEXAS KELI-FM, KGKL-AM, KGKL-FM, KKCN-FM & KNRX-FM
ODESSA MIDLAND - TEXAS KHKX-FM, KMCM-FM & KQRX-FM
PANAMA CITY - FLORIDA WAKT-FM, WASJ-FM, WPFM-FM & WRBA-FM
COLUMBIA - SOUTH CAROLINA WWNU-FM, WWNQ-FM
ONEONTA - NEW YORK WDLA-AM, WCHN-AM, WIYN-FM, WDHI-FM, WBKT-FM, WKXZ-FM, WZOZ-FM, WDLA-FM

However, if they do make a deal at the Alamo...errr...San Antonio, they could end up with

WILLIAMSPORT - PENNSYLVANIA WRAK-AM, WRKK-AM, WBLJ-FM, WBYL-FM, WKSB-FM, WVRT-FM, WVRZ-FM
BINGHAMTON - NEW YORK WENE-AM, WINR-AM, WBBI-FM, WKGB-FM, WMRV-FM, WMXW-FM
WHEELING - WEST VIRGINIA WBBD-AM, WWVA-AM, WEGW-FM, WKWK-FM, WVKF-FM, WOVK-FM
LIMA FINDLAY - OHIO WIMA-AM, WIMT-FM, WLWD-FM, WZRX-FM, WCKY-FM, WBUK-FM, WMLX-FM

Interesting!

Haven't kept up with the calls, so I don't know if its in your list, but the 107.7 in Findley has already been sold to BAS. For some reason, WCKY-FM (103.7 in Tiffin, a B) did not go with that cluster. Perhaps because of interest in bundling it with the Lima cluster, although it is not really close to Lima.

107.7 in the Findley market is WPFX-FM, an AC station known as "My 107.7" that is licensed to North Baltimore, OH.

According to an ad in this morning's Tom Taylor radio info e-mail, BAS Broadcasting paid $5.2 million for 107.7 WPFX-FM and 1600 WTTF in Findlay and 102.7 WCPZ, 100.9 WMJK, and 1450 WLEC in Sundusky, Ohio. Kalil and Company was the broker for the deal.

And 103.7/WCKY-FM, Tiffin, has applied to change COL to Pemberville, Ohio (near Bowling Green). This will allow the studio to be moved from Findlay to Toledo, to join the CC stations there.
