Writers vote to end 3-month strike that crippled Hollywood Feb 12, 2008 @ 10:10 PM

Striking Hollywood writers are going back to work.
The Writers Guild of America says its members voted Tuesday to end their devastating, three-month strike that brought the entertainment industry to a standstill.
Writers will go back to work Wednesday after voting in Beverly Hills and New York.
The union's board of directors approved a tentative contract Sunday giving writers a share of the growing revenue from programs offered on the internet and other new media.
Guild leaders say they are fighting for a piece of the future, as Internet-delivered entertainment is expected to claim an increasing share of the market.
The writers' walkout stopped work on dozens of TV shows and disrupted movie production. The strike also turned the usually star-studded Golden Globes show into a news conference and threatened the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony.
And the writers got nothing....and lost a bunch of jobs.
The writers get 2% of what is (and likely will continue to be) nothing, 70-something pilots will never be produced, and future pilots will be heavily limited. Writers, as a collective, are worse off for having struck!
Look at these anonymous comments from WGA members:
"What’s very troubling is the absurd pack mentality at work here. 90% voted to strike back in November and now 92.5% vote to end it without getting anything they were led to believe would be theirs....a majority of members (are) without any independent thinking ability of their own. The majority who voted to strike were duped and misled....a slightly larger majority have been duped yet again into thinking they have achieved this great victory. The gains are so minimal they are laughable."
"OKAY WGA– you destroyed my livelyhood [sic], ruined my xmas holidays, made us take a 2nd [sic] mortgage– and for what? my show is gone, my buddys [sic] have lost their OH deals, and we really didn’t get much AT ALL. What a waste."
Interestingly, very quickly after those comments were discovered, "grateful" posts (which all had the same tone and "thanked" the same people by name!) were made one after the other....and the number of minutes between each appears to exactly match the number of minutes it would require a single person to type them!
Unions have been destroying the industries they've been involved with for decades for the sake of producing riches for their corrupt leaders in the short term. Now, unions are likewise destroying their own members. Some -- maybe even many -- are now seeing it. How long 'til all figure it out??

Well, they destroyed 24 for this year, so that alone is a deal breaker for me.
