R.I.P. Cartoonist Doug Marlette

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Cartoonist Doug Marlette Killed in Crash

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Doug Marlette, the North Carolina-born cartoonist who won a Pulitzer Prize and created the popular strip "Kudzu," was killed in a car accident Tuesday morning in Mississippi, authorities said. He was 57.

Marlette, who joined the Tulsa (Okla.) World last year, was the passenger in the car, which struck a tree after skidding on a rain-slicked road, said John Garrison, the coroner in Mississippi's Marshall County.

"Evidently, it hydroplaned, left the highway and struck the tree," Garrison said.

Marlette's editorial cartoons and his strip, "Kudzu," are syndicated worldwide. The "Kudzu" strip deals humorously with rural Southern life, featuring characters such as the Rev. Will B. Dunn.

Marlette had been living in Hillsborough NC recently. I think he sold his house there a couple years ago. He donated artwork for several years for the t-shirts for Hillsborough Hog Day, a bbq/arts festival there.
Guess they're now collector's items. I have a few, having been drafted into volunteering by the Chairman, who I've known since I was 4.
The shirts are way cool.
Kudzu rocked.

Seems to me that I read that he had just late last week attended his father's funeral.

Quite a lot for that family, don't you think?
