Is This Right?

I'm not sure why I'm on a billboard kick, but here's an odd one I came across at the split in Charleston:

It's a billboard for Crest Toothpaste with a handsome African-American male (maybe in his early 20's) smiling and the words "Help Keep Your Grille Real".

HUH?!

I just thought it was weird.

I would like to hazard that this advertisment is a reference to the vernacular "grille" which refers to the adorned front teeth that are visible when smiling (if it helps, think of the front end of an automobile, e.g., a '56 Buick). Such adornment has become, among certain members of the entertainment industry, ornate to the point of exhibiting baroque, if not questionably tasteful manifestations, with precious metals and gratuitous gemstones being commonplace.

Thus, keeping the grille "real," suggests that the elegant simplicity of healthy, white, unadorned teeth is an attractiveness worth pursuing. This is possible, we are led to believe, through using the product at hand.

Or something like that.
