WV station for sale

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Well, come on down... or up... or over... Heck, if you have a boat, bring it and float it in Tygart Lake! I'm sure you and my husband could find something to talk about... Once someone mentions some wire or plug or newest gadget in the business, or how this is wired to that, or this receiver here or that thing over there... his eyes light up, he gets cold shivers, he shakes himself like a dog coming in from the rain, he -- well, you know what I'm talking about... you probably do the same thing. You'd be each other's newest bestest friend. I'm already regretting inviting you down, or up, or over, or wherever the heck you live.

Majesta would kill me if I sold the house and moved us into the business office, wouldn't she?

We're all pretty good people, despite what that girl in the box says about us.

She's from Grafton, so I think it would be bitter-sweet for her...

No doubt in my mind.
Come to think of it... no doubt in ANYONE'S mind.

OK... now to a REAL question.
Stop smirking -- I know you are, so get serious for a second...

NOW REMEMBER - I AM A TEACHER FIRST, GRADUATED IN THE DINOSAUR AGE - 1976 - WHEN FAIRMONT STATE UNIVERSITY WAS JUST FAIRMONT STATE. SO DON'T LAUGH AT YOUR ELDERS. (Really, I am old.)

As you probably have figured out, ratings were never one of my top priorities over the past 7 years. I was just thankful when the storm season was over...

So, we get our music feed from Citadel, (ABC) ..."Timeless Favorites" is the format... ABC calls the station discussing making liners and stuff, and they mention to my husband - after he begged prettily for the information -- we have .06 AQH. How bad is that for an AM? I know if we were this huge powerhouse of an FM it probably would be pretty awful... HOWEVER! It really makes me want to pee my pants to know someone - anyone - is listening!

But I still want to sell it. I was just kidding... I really would never pee my pants... unless we sell it, then maybe I would.

The Timeless format sounds pretty decent. If you were still on 95.9 - it would probably be a fairly easy sell in neighboring counties. Never understood why KISS in Clarksburg goes up against Magic with their Jones satellite feed. And, now that WPDX AM dumped Music Of Your Death for the FM simulcast, that leaves the always technically impaired WOBG 1400 for those wanting softer a/c. When WOBG AM is actually broadcasting something other than dead air, or is actually turned on, it still sounds like it's coming through a phone speaker patched into their board.

I'm glad M decided to spend more time with us. It's a good thing, too...Jack Bauer comes to her occasionally for 'continuing education.'

Seriously, M was always a good student and focused on the mission, evidenced by the fact she graduated one year earlier from FSC than I.

Get ready - I am a woman and give directions accordingly...

Right before you officially get in to Grafton on 50 (from Bridgeport), there is a fairly new stone monument type WELCOME TO GRAFTON SIGN. If you pass that, you went too far. Turn sharp right - hairpin type right - immediately in front of that sign. Travel about 100 yards up the hill. You can either keep going straight or make a really sharp hairpin turn to the left... make the turn to the left. Travel to the complete end of that cobblestone/brick street, about 200 yards. Can't miss the studios. They are the last thing there. It's actually Old Rt 50 before they put in the new bridge in Fetterman.

Incidentally, if you happen to miss the turn off of 50, and turn instead on River Road, you will drive right past Grafton High School. Go back and turn left toward Bridgeport. You can't miss that monument WELCOME TO GRAFTON sign.

If you don't turn, you will cross a bridge and GoMart is immediately on the left at the end of the bridge. Just turn around and drive like you were going back to Bridgeport. You will see the WELCOME TO GRAFTON SIGN on the left, and the road you need to take will be visible.

Steven is there most of the time. The number is 265-2200 at the station. His cell is 804-245-1139. We're leaving this Sunday for a road trip to take the now used EnergiOnyx to Bernie Wiseman to re-tune it to 1240 for some fellow in the mid-west. We will be back on Wednesday so that I can drive to Richmond and begin summer school on the 18th.

Now, let's take a quiz... (Just kidding)

I know where the GoMart is so should be able to find it.

Could have used the Energy Onyx this week at WNXT. It is on 1260 isn't it. Our SX5A bit the dust Sunday. A Nautel XR6 hopefully will arive Monday.

Yes, the Energy Onyx is configured for 1260. We bought it in October 2002 after the old Gates that came with the station got nailed by lightening for about the third time. We asked the guy that came with the station how often the tx blew up because of storms and he said, "Oh, about 6 to 8 times every year." I did a fast calculation and figured the difference in a new solid state tx vs. replacing new tubes in the old Gates 8 times a year... No brainer...

We sold it in March to a radio station in the mid-west on 1240... a 1000 watt station. The EO has drawers that can be added at 500 watts a drawer up to 1500 watts. Wish it could have been configured to 1190 and had enough space to add on 4000 watts. It was a nice little blue engine that could. I even knew how it worked.

Nautel XR is a great box. Easy install, logic, etc. Just make sure, very sure, you have no static issues with the tower or guy wires. Even if one johnny ball arcs from a storm 20 miles away the box will dump. Nautel has the most sensitive output monitoring you have ever seen.

Did they ever get that array back under control? I saw they had a couple STA's where cell towers sprung up along 23 right in the main lobe and no one bothered to put a skirt and de-tuning network on them.
