LOS = line of sight. There are no terrain features in the way between transmitting antenna and receiving antenna.
1-edge. No clear shot to transmitter. The signal has to refract over (get bent by) one terrain feature. More variation to received strength than with LOS.
2-edge. Now, there are two obstructions to refract over. More variation in reception.
Experimented with rabbit ears from Radio Shack, was only able to pick up KET and WOUB, and both came in spotty. However, I figured out that with a signal of at least 40, I was able to get either one with great reception. But like I said, both came in spotty with the meter going back and forth, but when it landed on 40...all was clear.
I came across a couple of antennas that should get 3 and 13, with perhaps a booster to get 11 and 8:
I have a dish mounted on my roof that is around 15ft above ground, and was thinking about just installing the antenna where the dish was and just connecting the cables to the antenna.
I'm about 25 miles from the 3 and 13 towers, and about 40 miles from the 11 and 8 towers. Not worried about the CW, WOUB, or KET. I'm thinking either antenna with a booster would do the trick.
NO NO NO NO. Lee, have you read anything I posted here? The RCA 751 is a fine antenna for most urban reception conditions, just not yours. The hills to your east knock down the signal levels badly, especially WCHS and WVAH. You will not get reliable reception of those two with what you're considering.
