Broadcasting 2 way radio

Is it not still against FCC rules to broadcast two way radio signals and especially police dispatch calls?
WSAZ did this tonight covering the trooper shootings.

I am fairly sure direct, automatic re-transmission is prohibited.
Rules are looser, more flexible now.

I think it is only legal if they are playing the audio tape that is recorded by central dispatch and released after the fact. To rebroadcast chatter from a police scanner could really have some negative implications. Essentially they could have been providing information to the suspect that fled the scene as to the location of police that were searching for the fugitive.

From what I have seen from the information presented by WSAZ, WCHS, and WOWK, all of these outlets have done a pretty lousy job of gathering the facts in this case.

WSAZ was reporting at 11 last night that both troopers had been killed...I didn't see the end of newscast so they
may have corrected it .....``

WOWK was reporting over and over that 6 people were shot instead of 5. Seems police were part of the problem giving out bad information. Other issue could be that the local news is now run by college kids. Every female reporter on 13 looks and sounds about 12.

I have to give props to MetroNews for having the best stories on the event. All three Charleston TV stations still had mismatched information coming from sources as late a 3:00pm this afternoon while MetroNews had a great breakdown of as much that could be determined from the information available on their website.


And it looks like WOWK is still right on top of things with their top notch coverage.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31. It's being held at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home in Poca. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1, at the Charleston Civic Center.
