WVBA winners-who dey?
I'm surprised someone hasn't posted the winners yet. I apologize if it has, and I again missed something important. I was again allowed by wifey to attend, but taking notes is not a strong suit for me. The WVBA did a really nice job this year. I'll allow others that attended to elaborate.
However, everything can be improved. To that, I propose a new category to the WVBA: "Outstanding Support to High School Radio Stations," or something to that effect.
I nominate SEVEN RANGES RADIO.
This is not an April Fool's joke. I sincerely believe that 'RSG and other stations act as a 'farm team' for commercial radio. I know I've ranted about this before, but how else are young people going to develop a love for radio? SEVEN RANGES has brought us back from the dead more times than I can recount...and that's no joke.

Re: WVBA winners-who dey?
I couldn't attend the Awards ceremony, so I'm coming here looking for a list of winners.
I'm very proud to say that "Morgantown AM" on WAJR-Morgantown with Kay Murray and I won "Talk Show Of The Year Large Market" for the 2nd year in a row. Kay and I have been on the air together on "Morgantown AM" since 1988, and this is the only recognition we get, so this is the kind of positive reinforcement we all crave in this business.
Also, WAJR-AM secured the "News/Talk Station of the Year Large Market" award. This seems to be a back-and-forth with WCHS-AM every year. It's an honor to win this one as well.

That's just g#d-damn depressing. Nothing worse than being unappreciated. Congratulations on your win, and please pass along same to Kay.Big Dawg wrote:Kay and I have been on the air together on "Morgantown AM" since 1988, and this is the only recognition we get

i call "bullshit" on the large market category awards ALL going to Raese-owned stations. So, he couldn't buy the Senate seat...AGAIN...but it would seem corruption is alive and well on a smaller scale.Brian G. wrote:List of winners now posted at http://www.wvba.com/news/170-2012-award-winners.html

I know from personal experience he's a liar. Award-buying would not be the only item on a list of his character flaws.Dave Harman wrote:Boy, there's a surprise. I thought you'd be all joy, happiness, and alive with the spirit of good sportmanship.

But I've never heard him say anything bad about you.

Kentucky broadcasters voted this year. But Dave, look at his user name. He's a jive talker. Indeed.

Re: WVBA winners-who dey?
"voted"? I doubt it. One time I was the judge (i repeat, THE judge) for the Missouri AP Broadcasters Awards. There was probably a single judge (in Kentucky) for the "large market" radio category...once that could easily be "influenced" if someone in the Raese camp found out who they were.Big Dawg wrote:Kentucky broadcasters voted this year. Again, ALL the awards going to a SINGLE company (and that company isn't even CC)? Does this not fail the smell test?

All the awards didn't go to one company.

OK...so then, which large market winner is NOT owned by either West Virginia Radio Corporation or Descendents Trust?Dave Harman wrote:All the awards didn't go to one company.

Well, I'm sure Mr Raese will find your assumption of him as the all-powerful King to be quite amusing. If you want to see large market winners from other stations, go ahead and buy one. Just don't try to run it as a phone-fed station in a satellite era, or it'll just be another huge failure on your resume.

Re: WVBA winners-who dey?
Dave, YOUR assumption that what's been told to you is true about how Metro News developed from the seeds that we at Mountainet planted, shows you to be as much of a fool for believing Raese as Paul Rose and i were for believing him and Dale Miller when we first met with them just after the election in 1984. Certainly the guy with the bigger bank book won, as is usually the case...but that's not my issue. It's the lack of integrity that was shown to us in the process that led up to them offering impossible-to-refuse deals on satellite dishes to stations in exchange for dropping our network for theirs. In the end, we couldn't get the financing to upgrade our signal, while they were well-capitalized. But that's NOT how things started. Oh no...we at Mountainet were offered a great deal by Raese and Miller to begin with, to move our operation from Lewisburg to Morgantown as a cooperative venture.Dave Harman wrote:Well, I'm sure Mr Raese will find your assumption of him as the all-powerful King to be quite amusing. We opened our books to them, they sized us up, and decided to renege on the course they had set. Raese would say it's just the way business is done, in the way HE does business. But I insist on integrity and trustworthiness in all MY dealings. My word has been my bond in everything i've done since then, from selling cars to selling insurance, to selling radio. Raese has all the integrity of...well...a politician!
Worst of all, we found out they were backing out of the deal in Fanny Seiler's column in the Sunday Gazette-Mail, just days after our last meeting with them. They had come up with a "Metro News" logo already. We had been played all along.

I feel sorry for you, dude. It's not that you're lying.... you actually BELIEVE the BS you're writing. But to still be obsessed with it is pitiful. You're so seething with hatred that you can't even talk with anyone whom you believe is not on the hate-wagon with you. Brian Thompson wanted to add you on Facebook simply because your (real) name is similar to his father's - and you went on an anger filled rampage about how you wouldn't even SPEAK to someone who had the audacity to work for John Raese. I'm sorry to disappoint you, but BT thought it was the funniest thing he's ever seen, and so has everyone else who's seen it.
So go ahead, continue to act like a lunatic. It must be miserable for your little internet harem to have to watch you self destruct from the hate bottled up inside you. Let go of it - somebody in your shape can't last much longer like this.
BTW, I was working the board for MSN the day you cleverly sawed all your phone lines in half while attempting to distribute the WVU-Pitt game. If that wasn't an open invitation for SOMEONE to start a network that was competent, I don't know what was.
I guess you are going to accuse John Raese of sending someone to break into your building and sabotaging the gear, huh?

Re: WVBA winners-who dey?
No, of course not, that was months before we were contacted about WVRC wanting to buy us out. The contractor who was expanding our office complex did the absolute worst thing he could have done at the worst possible time. I had just been promoted to GM of Mountainet the week before it happened. Thankfully, we got A T & T to renetwork the game quickly...but the damage was done.Dave Harman wrote:I feel sorry for you, dude. Despite any of our failings, I will strongly tout the quality and fairness of our news operation. Raese and Miller screwed up by not merging with us, because we had more creativity and journalistic chops than was exhibited in the early days of Metro News. We would have taken the enterprise farther than they did, given their resources.
What I can and will accuse John Raese of is not being trustworthy...and indeed, of potentially having the gall (and influence) to twist the results of a statewide radio award category to favor his properties.

Thank you..."pal". Over the past twenty years, our agency has been able to help many clients make good decisions for their families, which is how we measure our success.
As for what you perceive as my paranoia, I'm not a registered clinician. I must rely on those reading this thread to decide whether I deserve that diagnosis. However, your perspective is skewed at least as badly as mine. I'm sure that after one works in a sewer for three decades, the stench would seem to not even be there anymore.
We'll see a true paranoid message rolled out in the coming months, as the Maloney and Raese platforms use fear to try and convince West Virginians to vote against their own self interests.
So, is this a mere conspiracy theory? Are all the very best "large market" radio stations in West Virginia owned by Raese, despite seeming success by the WQBE's and WVSR's of the world? Indeed, are there NO stations in Huntington that even merit one award?
Another possibility: has Raese domination made the WVBA such a joke that no other stations even submit entries?
