I ran across this local ad in a Charleston newspaper from 1932. The Kearse movie theater was our finest theater. It also had live acts. This might be the best reason for radio yet:

All I know is, if I had to start up a daily syndicated radio show right now I would call it "Bargain Hour Today"...
