Biggie Coming To Wheeling

Post by Mr. Jones »

Biggie Coming To Wheeling
By Lance Venta on October 3, 2011 in Domain Insight, Headlines

When Keymarket Communications closes on its purchase of Christian AC “K-Love” 96.5 WLVW Moundsville/Wheeling, WV from EMF Broadcasting, a new Country format will debut.

Keymarket announced the purchase of the station in April for $550,000 and is currently awaiting the construction of a new tower which will bring the station closer to Wheeling proper.

Registrations of Biggie965.com, BiggieCountry965.com, BiggieCountry.com, 965Biggie.com, and 965BiggieCountry.com were all registered by Keymarket on Friday, September 30. Earlier in September Keymarket parked the WBGI calls on its 1340 in Connellsville, PA.

Thanks....now I've got the Burger Chef TV commercial jingle from the 60's playing in my head:
'A nickel and a dime will get:
French fried potatoes
Big thick shakes
Or the greatest 15 cent hamburger yet'

Why can't I remember what I had for breakfast this morning?

I was actually referring to Biggie's and not Burger Chef, but your tribute was much more memorable than my joke.

Thank you for the interlude...

I'm not from the Wheeling area so I didn't get the reference. However the brain cell with that jingle somehow woke up after sleeping for decades.

I wish Hardees would have a return of the "Big Shef" event. They were much better than the Big Mac or the Whopper.

Biggie's. As in the one still open in Grafton. Also used to be a location in Fairmont (Locust Avenue & Field Street...across from White School, CV News, Lafayette Electronics)...

Biggies also had a Morgantown location, next to the Flame Steakhouse (which isn't there anymore, either), across from the "new" post office... just on the town side of the South High Street Bridge. It's still there, isn't it?

Update 12/20: 96.5 has begun stunting with Construction Sounds in preparation of the launch of “Biggie 96.5“. The WBGI-FM calls went into effect on December 15.

Big Shefs were from Burger Chef, not Hardee's.

Biggie is now on the air, I've not had a chance to turn it on yet, but i've been told it is a pretty good sounding signal and is throwing a strong signal to Wheeling, much stronger than theKlove did.

Bellaire, actually. The antenna is mounted on the 100.5 tower. The former site was south of Moundsville in order to meet required mileage separation to 96.5 Akron. That station move north, towards Cleveland, allowing this move to the Bellaire site.

When I saw the thread name I thought you were talking about The Notorious B.I.G., Biggie Smalls, Big Poppa, The Black Frank White, Christopher Wallace.

I was wondering why they exhumed his ass and why they were bringing him to Wheeling.

I can get it in the cars south of Sistersville, with understandably dead areas. Overall, not a bad signal. As to the music, it might play some songs other country stations don't. If you're a country fan, and have heard the station, sound off on your likes and dislikes. It doesn't seem like a big deal to me, but I know nothing.

I'm not really a country music fan, but the music they are playing is very different than WOVK and the Froggie stations in the area. In the short period I listened yesterday it seemed to be primarily country music from the 90's. Also sounds like they have local jocks, but I could be wrong about that.

Right! What this market needed: ANOTHER country station!

How about they make a format that this market DOESN'T have yet instead of making a THIRD country station. We...DO listen to other types of music around here, you know!
