Divorce your Alzheimer's spouse?
The chairman of the Christian Broadcasting Network, Pat Robertson, which airs the 700 Club, said he wouldn't "put a guilt trip" on anyone who divorces a spouse who suffers from Alzheimer's
It's an interesting question, because if a person has full blown Alzheimer's, that means that they no longer recognize you whatsoever. It means that they have been reduced to almost a vegetable. Only their body is left behind as a remnant of the person. It's the same as being in a Coma, and people with spouses in Coma's can legally move on with their lives.
The biggest difference here is that you normally have to be pretty old to get Alzheimer's, which means that your spouse is old also.(except in the case where young women marry old men for their money of course). So if the remaining spouse is old, why would they even consider getting into another relationship?

Pat Robertson is a unique mixture of entrepreneurial genius, God-given talent and anointing and...as it has appeared many times over...no common sense.
I would like to work for him, though...

Yet another reason why, if there is a hell, Pat Robertson will burn there.

Missing the point. Has to do with the exorbitant cost of nursing home care & medicare/medicaid rules. If the couple stayed married the government would suck up every dime they own. A divorce at the early stages of Alzheimer may leave some assets for the surviving spouse & heirs. Action is needed early because some states/courts will not grant a divorce if one spouse is incapable of understanding the nature of the proceedings.

There is usually a "look back" provision, varies by state. Hence the need for advance planning, several years before anticipated need for long term care.

The bible thumping idiot Pat Robertson who has done more to bolster atheists than any other modern day Father Caughlin is missing the point too
It is not the Government that will be sucking up every dime they own..
Its Big Pharma, and the Health Care industry that takes pride in making mass profits off of human suffering who in turn buy off all the politicians they can and if ONE politician stands up against the status quo they are labeled a Socialist!!!
If anyone would like to educate themselves more about the disgusting state of the health care industry in America I urge you to read:
http://www.barlettandsteele.com/books/index.php
Critical Condition: How Health Care in America Became Big Business — and Bad Medicine
More than 100 million Americans with inadequate or no medical coverage . . . Dirty examination and operating rooms in doctor's offices and hospitals . . . Health care executives pulling in millions in bonuses for denying treatment to the sick . . . This may sound like the predicament of a third-world nation, but this is America's health care reality today. The U.S. spends more on health care than any other nation, yet our benefits are shrinking and life expectancy is shorter here than in countries that spend significantly less per capita. Meanwhile, HMOs, pharmaceutical companies, and hospital chains reap tremendous profits, while politicians — beholden to insurers and drug companies — enact legislation for the benefit of the few rather than the many, as the entire system verges on collapse.
Critical Condition exposes the horror of what health care in America has become. Barlett and Steele profile patients and doctors trapped by the system and offer startling personal stories that illuminate what's gone wrong. Doctors tell of being second-guessed and undermined by health care insurers; nurses recount chilling tales of hospital meltdowns; patients explain how they've been victimized by a system that is meant to care for them. Drug companies profit by selling pills in the same manner that Madison Avenue sells soap, while Wall Street rakes in billions by building up and then tearing down health care businesses. And politicians pass legislation perpetuating the injustices and outright fraud the system encourages.
By analyzing the industry and offering an insightful prescription for getting it back on the right track, Critical Condition is a compelling investigative work that addresses the concerns of every American.

Dude, the point is, Pat Robertson is a pathetic, hateful, waste of skin douchebag who cherry picks the Bible to make it seem as if he is some sort of man of God. His latest screed is the worst of the moral relativism that he constantly has railed against for the last 30 years.
If the God he believes in exists, he will burn for eternity.
And, just to go all Reppert on this post (no offense, I respect you, just wanted a biblical quote), Jesus said, "what God has joined together, let no man put asunder".
