Tower signal interference??
ATT lost service through most of West Virginia last evening for about an hour, and they claim it was because of "tower signal interference".
I don't understand how "tower signal interference" causes a statewide outage. Can any of you explain this, or is this BS for "somebody screwed up"?

I do not know if AT&T still uses microwave stuff anymore, but strong ducting or tropo interference can
interfere with a path to the point that it is unusable. Digital microwave equipment would give no warning of
a failure of this type. It would just quit. It only happened for an hour or so.
Maybe some technician mis-aligned a path or something. or cut a fiber and it took that long to fix.
I thought all this IP packet stuff was supposed to be self healing when another path was available.

I wonder if this could be the same time that Dish went down, and those lights were spotted in the sky? can't remember when and what times these happened. could have been a solar flair? then maybe someone stealing copper.

I think Dish was down for a whole day or so.
I did not see the lights in the sky.

I wasn't home at the time but I believe that dish went down around 7PM wheel didn't record. and was down till at least some time in the rest of the night. it was back up at 7:30am. thought perhaps what ever it was could have put them in overload shut down but just shut down other services for a little while. reguardless of what they said I was not able to receive anything other than their notice after un plugging and reseting. when I called dish as soon as I entered my zipcode I was disconnected. I could view what was recorded earlier,

Backhoe fade.
AT&T abandoned most all of their microwave paths years ago. What few links remain are specific point to point data links for a particular customer.

Re: Tower signal interference??
Wonder how many customers called AT&T to cancel their service over this outage. I wouldn't be a bit surprised.
