More proof that today's parents are idiots if they use this
9 things you shouldn't say to your child Parenting.com
'Leave me alone!'
'You're so...'
'Don't cry'
'Why can't you be more like your sister?'
'You know better than that!'
'Stop or I'll give you something to cry about!'
'Wait till daddy gets home!' ( what daddy? )
'Hurry up!'
'Great job!" or "Good girl!'

'Leave me alone!' - I use this one at least three or four times per week. Typically, it follows a constant nag from my 6 year-old. He is like a dog and his old bone. Even if there's a new bone, he won't give up the old one.
'You're so...' - With my 9 year old, it is usually "you're such a..." followed by smartass, pain, etc.
'Don't cry' - Use this one with my 9 year old when he starts crying like a 2 year old who's balloon has just been popped.
'Why can't you be more like your sister?' - Don't use this one.
'You know better than that!' - Use this everyday. They do know better. Unfortunately, it doesn't stop them from writing on the walls, drilling holes in the furniture with my drill, or from dragging the cat through the house by his tail.
'Stop or I'll give you something to cry about!' - Yep. Guilty.
'Wait till daddy gets home!' - Don't use this one unless they have destroyed something that belongs to their mother. Then, I really build it up.
'Hurry up!' - God. If only it was as simple as saying "hurry up". My 9 year old takes 20 minutes to put on his shoes.
'Great job!" or "Good girl!' - Come on! How could this possibly be on the list? I guess we are not supposed to commend them for a job well done?

The only proof you need that parents are idiots is 15 minutes of observation of them or their brats.

I haven't read the article yet, but if I were a betting man I'd say that the use of this is bad based *IF* a job was well done or not. When a kid gives a slack ass, half-assed or underwhelming performance and a parent says that anyway... then that is wicked bad, as in I think I read somewhere "you're turning them into serial killers" bad. When they get up in life and mommy and daddy aren't there to tell them good job (when it wasn't) they start lashing out, sometimes violently, when they can't understand why it wasn't a "good job" anyway.Big Media wrote:'Great job!" or "Good girl!' - Come on! I was told all of these things over and over again when I was growing up, except for "Good job!"
My grandmother nagged me constantly about dumb stuff, but it was to the point that it was comical in hindsight. Although I deserved much of it because I was constantly testing her to see what I could get away with.
As someone who used to eat junk food all the time and ride a bike without a helmet, it seems like kids today are just too coddled and controlled.

My father used this line on me a few times on me when I was a child. I still resent him to this day for it.CoolBreeze wrote: 'Stop or I'll give you something to cry about!'

I am glad to see that "don't make me get the cattle prod" is not on the list.

This is just one of those bull$hit list articles made by a bunch of editors and writing staff (sitting around a conference table) trying to spur on controversy without permanently offending the readers.
