Another New Yorker wants to close a lane of the Boulevard

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Another New Yorker wants to close a lane of the Boulevard

Post by CoolBreeze »

"I walk every single morning ... and traffic is just whizzing," Swift said. "I came from New York City. There's more traffic here than in Brooklyn. It's kind of ridiculous."

Here we go again.... close one lane of the Boulevard in Charleston. Well, if traffic is as horrible as she says, we'd better leave it alone.

My answer to her problem is, take that whiny ass back up to NY or go get some driving lessons...., we've got real problems to deal with here other than traffic issues....

Sorry, but Charleston traffic at its worst will never compare with any borough of NYC.

Maybe she needs to change her schedule to avoid heavy traffic.
Like walk the west end at night.

Speaking of sidewalks:

Today, Capitol Street in downtown Charleston was full of people at lunch time. Many were eating at the outside tables placed in front of restaurants and coffee shops. I see a man, one of Charleston's down and outers walking down the sidewalk. He was in his early 40s, wearing shorts and talking on a government cell phone.

No one would have noticed him except for one thing: He was wearing a piss bag strapped from his ankle to mid calf. As he walked past the people eating, you could see the looks on their faces as they put down their food.

Just when I thought I'd seen everything....

Today's Gazette has a story about a woman on welfare using a government cellphone. She has free housing, Cable TV, health care, food, and now cell phone service. So does her in law:

She also lets her daughter-in-law, who has a government Tracfone -- a pre-paid phone that does not require customers to enter into a service contract -- use her plan when her minutes run out.

"I keep telling her she needs to get one of these, too," she said. "It's much better than the government tract phone she's got."

OK, now, the article goes on to say that THIS ISN'T A GOVERNMENT HAND OUT THAT TAXPAYERS ARE PAYING FOR. BUT GUESS WHAT?

The program is funded through the Universal Service Fund. The Federal Communications Commission requires that each phone service carrier contribute to the fund, which is "giving folks a helping hand to get back on their feet in a terrible economy," Pflanz said.

Some carriers do charge small universal services fees on their bills, but Pflanz said the program is in "no way coming from taxpayers' dollars."

IF THAT'S NOT ANOTHER NAME FOR A TAX.... WHAT IS????

Like the "EMS Fee", it's all just another tax.

Rant:
(And then Cabell EMS asked B'ville for a donation of high value land that we had just reclaimed thru years of "Brown Fields" grants for a station. The director is said to have stated there would never be a station near B'ville if we didn't give it to em'! We told em' to f**k off. They don't care. They now have millions to play with and intend to tax cell phones. There is no public oversight of Cabell EMS or any EMS that I know of.) The service we need....the attitude we don't.
