Market Leader ??

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Market Leader ??

Post by oldtvman2 »

Saturday evening when the Ohio Lottery was to come on WSAZ , WSAZ went to black and stayed that way for aprox 15 minuets. Quit checking about 7:45. didn't stay around to see how long but when i looked in again about 40 after they were back up. No trouble slide up and no standby audio Guess they must have been on automation? Market Leader Indeed. I can remember when Clark Davis came running in to the controll room when the transmitter was off the air and told the on air switcher "put up a trouble slide were off the air" then he got a red face and left the room. that station was WOWK. at least in those days if needed there was a trouble slide and audio cart and someone to put them on the air. if the transmitter was on the air. didn't write the times down so they could be off.

Maybe someone heard about flight controllers sleeping on the job and decided to try it for him (or her) self.

Maybe there was a catastrophic failure--like perhaps a power failure at the studio, or an STL loss where a trouble slide wouldn't have mattered. Or, perhaps the cable system you pay each month lost the signal at the head-end. Lots can happen out of the control of the MCO. Then again, it could be that the poor guy was studying for his air traffic controller's exam.

I was watching on Dish. other local stations were still on indicating power might be ok downtown. the screen was blank with no noise indicating that microwave was ok. It looked like the lottery was having trouble, but there was no one there to let us know what was going on. you know like "stand by we are having tec.problems" also WSAZ has a generator if the power was out. don't know how often they check it. wowk would check both studio and transmitter generators each week. studio Saturday and 11:45 am Monday at the transmitter. I had to verify each monday that they both had run and how long they ran. had lot of trouble with studio generator blowing block heaters.
