Kroger sells the most "Hot Wheels" in the united states. So states the VP of this district. That doesn't mean they have a "good selection" though.

At our biggest local Kroger there has been an A-C case code shipper case sitting there since a little before Christmas. It has 10 cars floating around in a cardboard center aisle piece meant to hold 244 cars.

At our biggest local Wal-Mart, I have personally stocked more than that amount since then...and I don't even work there! Kroger gets 1-2 shippers per quarter for either 144 or 288 per store per quarter. Medium sized Wal-Marts put out 2-4 72 car cases a week and then get the 1-2 shippers per quarter.

This isn't exactly the same deal, but I did have a thorough discussion with folks at Kroger once about a technicality.

They advertised in their supplement a sale on Pepsi products for 99 cents, limit 4.

In the store however they had separate shelf tags that said something like 'Diet Pepsi 2 Liter 99 cents limit 4' and Caffeine Free Diet Pepsi 2 Liter 99 cents limit 4' and 'Diet Mt. Dew 2 liter 99 cents limit 4'. I put 4 of each in my cart. When I got to the checkout line they told me I could only get 4 of the 12 at the sale price. I pointed out that they had to honor the posted price and conditions on the shelf tag which overrode any advertising. The checkout person called a manager and after hearing my argument he agreed with me and I got all 12 for 99 cents each. I think the non-sale price was $1.59 so I saved $4.80 with my argument.

when Hecks was in town they advertised a "dual mantel colman lantern for $12.99". when i got to the store it was marked $24.99 I showed them the ad from the paperand asked to see the manager. when he came over I explained that he had to sell me the lantern at the advertised price. after much discussion and coments about bait and switch and truth in advetising and other things law wise and that I worked for a TV station and how it probably would make the 6:00pm news he agreed to sell me the lantern and then told the clerk to take all of them off the shelf and put up a sold out sign, it does pay to make them live up to what they advertise.

For some reason I caught THE ONLY TIME I have ever seen the word "Fragrances" left OUT of a "50% Off All Health And Beauty Aids" Bon Ton ad. I got a large bottle of Joop! and a large bottle of the original Armani at half off. I had to, just like you guys did, prove to them that the advertisement that THEY sent to MY house said that they were going to sell that to me AT THAT PRICE...

One time a supermarket had a hand-written sign in their bread section that advertised a loaf of one brand at .99¢ so I asked a clerk nearby stocking shelves, "How can you afford to sell the bread at less than a penny each?" He asked me what I was talking about. "It's ninety-nine cents each." I told him that his sign said ninety-nine one-hundredths of a cent. Also wondered how he can give back one-hundredth of a cent in change or is that added into the tax. Never did win that one.

Not sure about Hot Wheels, but as far a toys in general, Wal-Mart sells the most. These are stats from a few years ago, but very little has changed. Based on toy sales:
Wal-Mart - 20%
Toys 'R' Us - 17%
Target - 15%
K-Mart - 12%
Everyone else - the other 36%
I would guess that these numbers would translate to Hot Wheels. Again, these stats are a few years old. I am sure the numbers have changes +/- 3%.
Someone in Marketing, Sales, and/or Distribution, etc., tracks the numbers for Business and Research purposes only.

Since you probably do not have access to the site, here are the other comments when I posted the "Who Sells The Most Hot Wheels In America?" question. My post is first, then the others:

I saw this statement posted on a radio message board that I frequent and it got me thinking:
"Kroger sells the most "Hot Wheels" in the United States".
Well, obviously that is not true...as known by any serious collector. My question is: who DOES sell the most Hot Wheels in the United States?
If I had to guess I would say:
1. Wal-Mart
2. Toys R Us
3. K-Mart
4. Target
5. All the rest in whatever order you wish...
Anybody have any input on this???

While we are likely not going to get any confirmation... Mattel may not even keep HW sales separate from other Mattel products, I think your list is close to correct except I think Target probably sells more than KMart.

It isn't even close. Walmart sells the most HW's for any mass market retail chain.

ELYRIA, Ohio (AP) -- Police say a pregnant woman and her mother were arrested after the older woman choked a 71-year-old Walmart greeter while leaving the store in northeastern Ohio.

Elyria police say 49-year-old Toni Duncan, of Elyria, was asked to show a receipt Saturday and responded by pushing a cart into the greeter, grabbing his throat and choking him. She was charged with assault.


Her daughter, 21-year-old Ashley Jackson, of Elyria, was charged with aggravated menacing and inducing panic. The (Lorain) Morning Journal reports that she's accused of saying she would blow up the store and that the greeter would be dead when her boyfriend learned of the incident.

Both face a court appearance Wednesday. No attorney for either was listed in court records, and no working phone number was found for either.

Man pleads guilty to yelling at Wal-Mart greeter who asked to see receipt

A man accused of berating and threatening a greeter who asked to see his receipt at a local Wal-Mart pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and drug possession charges.

James Maurice Barker, 45, of the 800 block of Montclair Street in Bethlehem, was sentenced to six months to one year in Northampton County Prison and fined $750 by Judge Paula Roscioli. Roscioli ordered Barker to receive drug and alcohol evaluations and attend anger management classes.

In court Barker tearfully apologized to the greeter from the Bethlehem Township, Pa., store.

“I’m only a human being. I’m flawed, I made mistakes,” Barker said as he cried. “I just want to live my life.”

Barker, who claims he is working on an album with the Motown record label, said he was visiting from the West Coast back in October when he decided to take his two teenage sons shopping.

The group drove to the Wal-Mart off of Route 191 in a limo, and Barker purchased about $1,000 worth of electronics. Barker said his sons were taking the purchases out in a shopping cart when the store greeter approached and asked to see the receipt.

“He’s a musician, he’s flamboyant, he is loud,” defense attorney Robert Sletvold said. “He felt he and his sons were being disrespected.”

Sletvold said Barker has an overprotective instinct since a son was shot and killed in Philadelphia a few years ago.

“That set all kinds of alarms in you,” Roscioli said, adding she herself gets stopped for her receipt at Wal-Mart. “Had you just left quietly, no one would have arrested you.”

The greeter told police Barker accused him of being racist and told him to meet Barker outside. Assistant District John Obrecht said Barker used expletives 20 to 30 times during his tirade.

“All the greeter wanted to do was see his receipt,” Obrecht said.

After the confrontation, Barker and his sons left in the limo, which police tracked down at Broad and Maple streets in Bethlehem. Police claim they found cocaine and a glass pipe in the vehicle.

Good grief. Show the damn receipt and get the hell out of there. What's the big deal? Unless, of course, you have something to hide.

I was followed to my vehicle by a Target employee, once. It was bizarre. He just calmly walked behind me. He never asked me to stop or anything. Just politely watched me to my car. I got in my car, backed out, and left. As I was pulling away, he returned to the store.

Not sure what that was all about. It was a day that I had gone into the store for something and ended up buying nothing. Guess they suspected that I stole something and was watching to see if I unloaded the loot. Who the hell knows?
