The Shiela Redling Farewell Tour
Cox Landing, Guyandotte, Sybene, Westwood, Franklin Furnace. These are but a few of the burgs in the region that will be stops on next week's Sheila Redling Farewell Tour 2011. The KEE-FM morning star will ride off into the sunset after a staying a few extra weeks at Judy's prodding.
Judy has been sweating it out as the replacements assessed thus far are less than stellar. Frankly, most have sucked and Judy knows it. But paying slightly more than minimum wage to a recycled part-time board operator does not quality morning talent bring. She won't dig deeper for more cash so she will settle for less as fine replacement or not, Sheila is gone after next week.
As is typical on any Farewell Tour, t-shirts and other memorobilia will be on sale in the hallways. These low quality, Big Lots style items will feature a list of all the citys the tour will visit. As an added bonus they will proudly display the names of all of those cut from CC-Huntington since Judy started swinging the budget-cutting axe. Because of the immense size of that list, please be aware that t-shirts are only available in 3-XL.

Re: The Shiela Redling Farewell Tour
I heard that a commercial FM country station in Portsmouth, Ohio had a very famous female personality (known for her skill at operating EAS equipment)...and she is available...
I can just hear her now speakin' about Lady Gay Gay!
Meanwhile, Mr. Rotten soldiers on....

This yarn makes me chuckle. Speaking of Chuckle, I wonder how a Chuckle Black and Diamond Dave Roberts show would sound.
Seriously, I think KEE is doomed.

Not unless and until it has a competitor for what it offers in this market. Right now, that would only be Pandora, XM, Sirius and MP3s. Then again, in KEE's target market, many say radio itself is doomed.

KEE has been doomed since 1997. Yet, somehow, the zombie still spews Hot AC and pulls good enough ratings to let sales staff generate a few dollars. If the departure of GMM had a negligible impact, then this will be an even less impact to the overall scheme. I do not believe that Judy is sweating this. She can simply pull down another show over the bird and I hardly think anyone in the tri-state would even notice.Big Media wrote:Seriously, I think KEE is doomed.
If Philadelphia did not notice they lost all local talent on their CHR station then I doubt if the tri-state would give a diddle damn who is talking between their Maroon 5, Greenday, and Black Eyed Peas.
Radio is doomed because the music industry has let the greed overtake of the labels and RIAA over take the need to develop proper talent. In the last 6 months, half the tunes I have heard on Z100 in NYC or Q102 in Philly do not even count in the realm of music. Maybe I am getting old or I have live in eastern PA too long and have gravitated more toward classic rock, but the $hit i have heard just pushes me more to Pandora and MP3s for than ever before. The Interpreter wrote:Then again, in KEE's target market, many say radio itself is doomed.

I will say it till I stop saying it....the future of radio is LOCAL. LOCAL LOCAL LOCAL. The more local you can make your station sound the better the rewards will be. I preach it to my troops every day. I want you to give Logan/Mingo/Boone/Lincoln, etc things they can't get get on Sirius, Pandora, etc.

WSAZ's story on Sheila's last day & show at WKEE-FM.
And in a funny postscript, here's a facebook post she made today, about 24 hours after she signed off for the last time:
From the school of "Here's your hat. What's your hurry?" ATT has disconnected my work phone. I'm now back to my old number and I have lost a TON of contacts.
