The End For Eric McGuire

An era will end Monday in the history of West Virginia Broadcasting. The man who has caused thousands of West Virginians to start every workday with a chuckle, a hearty belly laugh, and an occasional wince will perform his final broadcast.

"It's just a joke," said WVAQ-FM Morning Show host Eric McGuire.

The line has become the mission statement for McGuire's radio career that dates back to the 1970's, however his departure from broadcasting is no joke. Truthfully, it's no laughing matter at all.

"I have severe neuropathy in my feet," said McGuire. "They feel like they are so swollen they are going to explode, but there are no visual signs of swelling at all."

Adding to the health complications is a disk herniation on a vertebra in his neck which adds to his pain.

"It's really big and it's going to have to involve surgery and that may cost me my voice," he said.

So McGuire's career will end with Monday's broadcast.
