Shiela, Dave, Only Dave, No Sheila?

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Shiela, Dave, Only Dave, No Sheila?

Post by Know It All »

Let the dismantling continue....

Dave The Newbie on WKEE's morning show is already running off the experienced hired help. Reports out of the CC Huntington cluster are that Sheila is cashing in her coveted spot in the chair to focus on her budding career as an author. Well, she really isn't cashing anything in. We all know that CC is out of cash and doesn't pay anyone anything. The only person left there with any money is Judy, but the Know It All will save that topic for another post.

Sheila's job will be filled, Dave will have a new sidekick thus giving him top billing. He is rejoicing at that as he will be THE morning guy - not an afterthought to some girl who was there before he was.

Know It All can see the posting now: "Clear Channel Huntington is looking for an experienced announcer to join a morning team. The successful candidate must be willing to work with an inexperienced guy with a big ego and laugh at all of his jokes. Salary is not based on experience and is barely enough to keep the candidate out of the Huntington City Mission Soup Line. The successful candidate must be willing to pop Rolaids daily to prevent acid reflux caused by the constant worry of falling victim to Judy's constant Slash and Gash Job Cuts. Fax your resume today to either 866-Good-Luck or to our front desk secretary. Oh, don't send it there - we cut her job too."

Actually, the position has already been advertised!

The better question is why, with all the cutting, they are still running a low rated, labor intensive, locally produced morning talk show on the little listened to AM band, that must produce at least $370 gross (not net) revenue each week...or does it even do that well?

It is this morning, too...with Dave talking about coming to work from his mother-in-law's house in Westwood.

Meanwhile, over on AM 800. a "best of" (?) is running, apparently.

Later, they appeared to switch to real, live Roten (perhaps when he arrived?)

Since when did he start talking about his hedonistic college days on the show?

I really can't believe I wasted 10 years of my life doing this shit. Radio is like the Church of Scientology. I don't have anything nice to say about anyone except Jay, BT, Hesson, and Animal. Ya'll can delete my account if ya want, cause I'll probably just keep stopping by every couple of months to call out some bullshit. Please read the underlined text with a Mingo County accent.

The radio business isn't based on skill, knowledge, or creativity. The radio business rewards those who give the best blow jobs, sometimes literally.

*edit* forgot to mention Hesson, who fuckin RULES by the way. And yeah, maybe I'm saying that cause he took me to my first titty bar the day after my 21st Bday. So what?
I'm Rick Kline, bitches.

There is barely anything left at CC Huntington. The barest skeleton of a staff.

Won't be long before the remainder of the talent is let go. They've already driven the best away.

The fact that Judy is still there and still makes top cash when there is basically nothing left to manage and she is the biggest expense they have shows you how mismanaged CC is.

That's why you might as well give it up and get satellite radio. Cut out the middleman (and the commercials). If Rush were on Sirius I'd basically not need even AM anymore.

Oh, how you have changed! As a long, long time poster here, I was among the first Sirius subscribers (and, indeed, subscribed the first day they took subscribers from WV). You said then that local radio rules, that Sirius (XM was a different company back then) would never make it, and that local, local, local was the most important thing about radio. You were right about that last part. Too bad CC either no longer has the luxury of ignoring that last part or just plain old doesn't get it. And the Clear Channel folk at the highest levels back then went on to wreck other companies, too...such as The Chicago Tribune....
